And under the top-6 format, Houston would still get in (even though they havent played anybody), so you cant say the lower level teams dont have a chance. Boise State also would get in if they hadnt lost, the lower level teams still get a chance...you just wanna reward ALL lower level teams, which is absurd. Again, this isnt college basketball.
Theres nothing wrong with using the polls to some degree, to weed out terrible teams like Arkansas State & La Tech...we are not using the polls to eliminate 118 teams as it currently does. College basketball uses subjectivity to pick its 65 tournament teams too, you dont need to get rid of it subjectivity/polls entirely.

I could see that.. but then it evens out everything as well. It's better to have good teams sprinkled all throughout college football than have 8 of them jumping ship to form some mega conference.
The only reason Boise State, TCU, Utah, BYU, etc have all moved around is because they at least can get an automatic berth if they win their conference.. something they were never guaranteed in the Mountain West/WAC.
Again.. I fail to see the big deal of letting the MAC, Sun Belt, WAC, etc champion into a 16-team tournament.. they would be as deserving as a #15 AP team who had 3 losses. And in a sense it rewards the Top 2 or 3 teams for having a great year. Pretty sure LSU would rather play Ohio or LA Tech than an at-large team in the 5/12 spot.

I still think a 16-teamer adds too many games. There is no way the conferences will do away with their title games, so that's already 13 games for these teams. A 16-team tournament is then adding four additional games for the champion, which makes 17 games if they play in a conference with a title game.
That's too many games, unless you can convince the leagues to do away with their money generating made for TV championship games. And good luck with that.

And it doesn't matter who's more deserving between the #15 ranked team and the Sun Belt champ cause neither one should be in there.
The big deal is that there's no good argument for letting them in. Just stuff like "if they don't deserve it they'll lose" "why not just let them in" and "they won a conference no one cares about."
It is a big deal:
1) You are making the playoffs several weeks longer than they need to be with these undeserving teams.
2) You are risking injuries with these unnecessary games.
3) You are forcing people to watch complete blowouts on the biggest stage.
Like Pand said, the best reward you can give top teams is a bye...any extra game you force them to play lengthens the playoffs & risks injuries for no reason.
