I would doubt that it is completely true if a boxer is able to secure a high level MMA contract. 3-500k+ w/PPV %'s + sponsorships. With that most boxers could make more in MMA. Toney's boxing promoter even said that the UFC will be good payday for Toney, so it's worth him doing. That says a lot, if there was a huge discrepancy in pay Toney most likely wouldn't be doing this. The only guys getting huge pay days are the Floyd's and Pacquiao's of boxing. I'd be shocked if guys like Paul Williams, Chad Dawson, Kelly Pavlik, Cintron, Berto, etc etc are earning more than say Rampage or Shogun. No way. Either way it's really not about the money for most of these guys, it's about passion. If you're at that level in boxing, you've probably been committed to it since you were a kid, so it's going to be hard to pry these guys away from a sport that they love, even if they could get a few extra million.

Now, if you present MMA as a legit opportunity to showcase their boxing skills and prove that they're the best fighter in the world, show them some respect, maybe you interest a few guys here and there.

I guy like Cintron could make the transition, he wrestled in high school and has more of a power puncher style, I think he still makes good money though so he wont try it until the well runs out in boxing and than it will be to late for him to make an impact

He's making more money fighting mostly on undercards? In MMA you can realistically fight 3 or 4 times in a year. In boxing you're only looking at 2 or 3 and probably only one of which will be a big fight and big payday. So looking at the entire year there's definitely more potential in MMA and again sponsorships are huge, something that's almost non existent for boxers. The longevity is also a lot better, you lose a fight in MMA you're still getting paid big. You drop a fight in boxing you may as well forget about any huge payouts thereafter.

Agreed.. I thought given the circumstances Toney actually held on a lot longer then I wouldve expected. Shame on Randy for not being able to do work quicker. Its a joke if Toney dont get another chance.. we need to see someone foolish enough to box with dude. He got fed to the wolves on this one..

Who was that fruit who was telling me about boxing footwork and the ability to land deadly combo's when I guy shoots in for a takedown?

Also, nothing to do with Toney being old and fat, boxers don't train to stop takedowns, boxing footwork is for boxing, a boxer spends zero minutes a day stopping a takedown and spends another zero minutes throwing punches from there back

If it was Pacman vs Faber it would have been the same result

Thats why the first UFC was created by the Gracie's, style vs style with limited rules

NHB/MMA allows everyone to do what they know, James Toney was not handicapped at all in this fight, he was allowed to use his boxing plus more, it is the middle ground for all combat sports

No point in Randy doing boxing

Randy started in MMA as a wrestler, thats his base art, he would have taken Toney 15 years ago with the same technique, would have just finished with punches though instead of the arm triangle

Also, 'MMA guys' do box, some do ok, not on the elite level but they can survive, they are not fish out of water

I was expecting Couture to work in some leg kicks, clinch game, and dirty boxing. He had the opportunity to really make a statement, turn this into a legendary fight, but blew it. Instead he dove at his ankles the first opportunity he got. Looked like some weak ass tackle animation on Madden.
