Broncos agree to trade Cutler to Bears

The Browns reportedly had a deal on the table Thursday afternoon that would have sent Brady Quinn to Denver.

The reported deal also involved the Redskins, presumably with Jay Cutler going to Washington and Jason Campbell headed to Cleveland. Cutler told a Denver TV station that he was headed to Washington, but the deal fell apart at the last minute. The Broncos were believed to favor Quinn over Kyle Orton

The Bears really did give up a ton to get Cutler. I kind of thought it odd that the Broncos would want Kyle Orton...I guess they need a QB now that Cutler's gone, but asking for Orton in the trade seems to me that Denver is agreeable with having Orton as their starter now.

The Bears defense is nothing special, and their WR corps is easily the worst in the NFL. Now that they traded away their draft picks, I don't know how they are going to acquire a Crabtree/Harvin/Nicks type WR in the draft.

With 18 overall they were most likely looking more at a guy like Kenny Britt or Heyward-Bey.

They SHOULD go WR in Round 2. Should be interesting to see who is available there. I've been a big proponet of Ramses Barden lately but we will see.

As for overpaying I would disagree. Especially with Angelo's propensity for blowing 1st round draft picks in the early to mid portions of the draft. The Bears basically gave up two picks that would have been busts had they kept them. They had an extra 3rd rounder to play with so sending that still gives them 1 in the 3rd round. And they still have 8 draft picks overall in rounds 2-7. Which is where Angelo has drafted very well historically. Plus if the Bears do what they expect to do with Cutler at QB that 1st rd next year should be a late 1st rounder.

Basically the Bears gave up exactly what I thought they would and I'm fine with it.

His stats from Denver in only 3 seasons would put him at: 6th all time in completions in Bears history, 7th in attempts, 7th in yards, and 5th in TD's.

I think the Bears gave up a lot for Cutler, but I really don't think they "overpaid". Giving up Kyle Orton hurt a little because the only other QB they have to backup Cutler now is Caleb Hanie...but really, if Orton saw significant PT for the Bears after they acquired Cutler, then the trade was probably not good for the Bears regardless of whom Cutler's backup was.

Giving up the high draft picks hurt, but since Angelo tended to botch those anyways, at least the Bears are getting a proven player at QB in Cutler. I think Cutler is very good, but regardless of your opinion of Cutler, I think most people would consider Cutler to be a big upgrade over Orton.

Some of you aren't getting it. Cutler won't have to put up huge numbers in Chicago. All he will need to do is move the football and take care of the football and provide some leadership on offense. Chicago's defense and special teams will do the rest.

Obviously he will have to win some games for them if they want to be Super Bowl champs, but all in all, for the Bears to make the playoffs each year they don't need to rely on Cutler alone . They have the pieces in place.

OC Ron Turner is willing to cut a QB loose and let him play when needed. Orton threw the ball a lot last season and when Turner has a capable QB the QB is able to put up big numbers. Two of the three best passing seasons in Bears history came with Turner as OC and a capable QB at the helm. Kramer in 95 and Grossman in 06.

Of course they don't want Cutler making shit headed decisions but they also don't want him to be a game manager. They brought him in to make plays, something he has proved he can do at a very high level.

Cutler will not be asked to "simply manage the game" he will be asked to be the Pro Bowl QB the Bears brought in and paid a high price for.

If the Bears wanted a QB to "manage" the game they would have kept Orton and not giving up 2 1st rounders.

The Cardinals had some decent QBs, and at least they tried to get good QBs. I remember them drafting Kelly Stouffer and Timm Rosenbach pretty high in the draft...Stouffer refused to sign and Rosenbach was really good but blew out his knee after his 2nd season.

The Bears QBs have been a disgrace. Henry Burris? Moses Moreno? Will Furrer? Remember a couple years ago when the Bears starting QBs were Chad Hutchinson and Jeff George?

McNown was a punk and had the tools just never cared to learn how to play the game. Everyone on the team pretty much hated him.

Henry Burris was a cast off the Packers practice squad and the Bears thought they found a steal. FAIL.

Krenzel was a guy the Bears got in like the 6th round and just wanted him to be a roster fill. But that season Grossman got hurt, Jonathan Quinn sucked ass, and Krenzel came in and played steady football. Then he got hurt and the Bears signed Hutchinson off the street.
