This game feels like what I would imagine what Alpha Protocol was striving to accomplish, without the timed dialogue decisions.
I dunno...having played it briefly (and having played a lot of AP) I'd say AP strived to be more of an RPG than this does. It literally took its RPG elements and applied them to EVERYTHING (which is likely why the targeting with anything other than pistols was retarded).
AI appears to be on par with AP though haha. It also certainly has FAR more polish than AP did (I'm still so super bitter that that game didn't get to realize its potential...I wish they would have gotten a shot at a sequel).
