i think if you are playing the game above normal difficulty, you almost have to play a mage, or spend most of your time controlling whatever NPC mage you adopt. the sheer power is devastating and needs to be controlled alot more than your warrior taunting, and with the new speed of combat, a mage can actually kite very well, running away and then turning and burning a fireball in someones face or popping a mind blast to buy time. I don't mind the imbalance ; pay attention to the dialogue. the whole intellectual property is based on mages, controlling mages, the effects of mages being bad, etc etc.
best tip im going to give yet:
You guys need to learn the R key.
the R key targets and begins attaching the nearest enemy. if you are a warrior, this actually lunges you forward toward them, allowing you to intercept bad guys as they chase down your mages (and you end up tapping it throughout the fight bouncing off bad guys). as a mage, this lets you run away from someone and turn and pop off a staff shot then keep running.
