Perhaps, but I have a hard time believing that they'd lower their base prices based on their PC game prices. They are one of the few publishers that consistently go with the $60 price tag at launch.

EA already allows pre-loads on the PC side through Origin. However, it might not be entirely in their hands on the consoles given that Mass Effect 3 could be pre-ordered on PSN, but Sony didn't allow anyone to download it until midnight on release day.

I know that point, but then I have to wait for it to download, whereas now I can just pop the disc in and go. And $100 is no big deal, but like waiting for a download to happen, an irritant.
That is all this is, an irritant. Though I do recognize that some studios could be helped by this and I didn't think about that. That is about the only good point from my perspective (and a damn good one.)

I wouldn't be too sure about that (at least, I wouldn't expect crazy sales often). EA execs have gone on record saying that Steam-like sales devalue their product.

I'd like to see a comparison of those game prices against Steam's when the Summer Sale starts. I can almost guarantee that Bad Company 2, both Dead Space games, and Medal of Honor will be at the $5 mark. A five or six dollar difference may not seem like much, but that difference will allow you to get two games on Steam for the price of one on Origin.
i agree Steam sales are out of this world and I dont think anyone will compete with that. All I know is that I will pay for the convenience of it. To not have to worry about, retail stores, shipping, pre order bonuses, online passes, ect.

I think Amazon and GameFly have been doing great with PC digital sales lately. Heck, Amazon had a Dragon Age bundle for $10 last week.
the only thing i dont like is not being able to trade in my games. the next gen is already used to digital downloads. by next gen i mean of people....people using the apple/android devices are already used to downloading everything. its the future and it will be the norm for all games

Yeah, because there have neved been issues where digital accounts just "forget" that you "own" a game. And by own, I mean just own the right to play it. Whereas with a physical disc I've never had that problem, as long as I take care of it, which I do.
And LOL at you thinking a company like M$ will deviate from their current policies and allow you to buy any HDD you want. So not only will I have to pay full price for a digital game but I'll have to buy some overpriced proprietary hard drive to store it. Sounds awesome!

Your other option will eventually be....don't play games. If you havent noticed most of us have been downloading tons of games already. Arcade and PSN games....sure they are cheaper but it is only a matter of time. Like the article said...people are ready. That fucking BF3 Digital has already sold 800K (and god knows how many COD Elite has been sold)....like it or not this is going to happen. You can always stop buying games all together.

I think a lot of people in this forum will have a problem with because a lot of us are deal hunters.....we spend time on CAG, amazon deals of the day, newegg...ect For every one of us there is 1,000 people that don't even know these deals take place or where to find them. They just pay the sticker price and walk away with a smile. We are the types that bring in 3 coupons, and price match flyers and yell at the clerks for not knowing anything.....we are 1%.
Anyone who supports this is a dumb shit. No doubt, it should definitely be an option but making it mandatory for anyone who wants to play your game is an awful idea. You dont like the game you are stuck with that shit with no resale value, you cant grab your disc and take it over a buddys house and you cant loan/borrow the game. Redbox or Gameflying games? Forget about it. Anyone complaining about gamestop (the middleman) or complaining about driving 100 miles to pick a game up because you live in west bumblefuck with no retailers (not even a fucking walmart...really?) around, get with the times. Amazon has been offering release day delivery on most games for a few years now.

Music, movies......now games. It is no surprise.....WE ALL KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. Would I like the option....sure but that kind of defeats the purpose.
With music and games you still have the option to get a physical copy, with these there are talking getting rid of physical media all together. Fuck that shit.
