Amare is supposed to be the #2 but his game hasnt meshed well with Melo And he's breaking down as expected, plus he has a Toxic contract and I think the NYK used their amnesty on Junkyard Dog way baq when..
this team was built for a 1-2 year run, Dolan and Co. dont seem to have a long term plan in place... and I sure as fuk dont have any faith in them building a consistent contender

The Knicks' problems extend far beyond J.R. Smith as an alleged second option. That Jason Kidd is still on the floor, out of position, on a contender tells you the Knicks' problems run way deeper than an erratic, alleged second option.
Not knocking Kidd, first ballot HOFer, but at this point in his career he shouldn't be a major player out of position on this team.
I also don't buy Carmelo Anthony as a championship calibre first option, but I it is what it is. If the Knicks are taking the next step with Anthony as their top guy, they need to fix a lot of shit.

Besides J.R Smith, another disappointment was Tyson Chandler. I understand he wasn't 100%, but damn, he gave the Knicks nothing. And I'm tired of him taking shots at teamates or the 'game plan'. How about admitting his lousy play against Roy Hibbert.
Knicks need more beef up front, and youth & speed in the backcourt. Have to get a consistent scorer - J.R Smith showed he's not ready for prime time.

I was expecting to reach the conference finals, but I'm not shocked we lost to Indy. Didn't they have like, 3 of the best statistical defenders? They had our number, and they played like they did. Tyson and Smith having a bad series didn't help at all.
Amare being hurt hurts the Knicks more than meshing their play styles. If we can see flashes of Melo playing defense, then I'm sure Melo and Amare could have made it functional if he was healthy.
I'm real interested in seeing what the Knicks do with Smith, if he wants to be paid star money then we should let him walk. Get rid of the big contracts, and try again with free agency. I don't think the Knicks will be a good drafting team in the next 10 years, so we need to entice free agents. Build around Melo and Shump, since Melo's the only real great player we have and Shump is the only young player we have.

Ugh. Stupid turnovers when the game was tight effectively ended their season. Surprised to see when it was all over just how bad of a game Felton had. Melo did his best, can't really fault him too much (tho he had some stupid TO's late). Shumpert put them on his back in the 2nd half with his barrage of 3s.

Knicks are pretty much capped out. I believe they will be about 18 million over the cap.
They have early Bird rights. Can give him a short term thing with promise of more money later. He likes playing here close to family. We'll see.

People crazy talking like this season was a failure for the Knicks....I mean look at our roster, before the season started NOBODY predicted they'd win 54 games and be one of the top teams in the East......we were too old remember?.....how ironic is it that Chandler who's not that old is the one who got his ass busted by Hibbert.......that's the main reason why we lost this series, because our center got his ass handed to him on expensive china.....yea losing to the Pacers was disappointing but the team did make progress this year, everyone seems to forget that.....and did you honestly think this team was going to win a title? I sure didn't, but I'm pleased at what they did squeeze out of Melo and his old teammates.......this was a very flawed roster to start with...if you told me back in October we'd get 54 wins and make it to the 2nd round with this roster I would've asked you where do I sign... ...the key for the Knicks organization is how they handle things going forward because we have little to no wiggle room......they will have to get extremely clever and that concerns me more than anything because we all know the word "clever" and "NY Knick brass" are not exactly synonymous in the same sentence

Wins in the regular season, eh, nice and all but it doesn't mean much in the long run. They were required to advance to the 2nd round at the least or this season would have been a disaster, even if they won 60 in the regular season.
The roster is definitely a mess, old but we can't see any significant changes b/c of how it's made up.
I guess either way, running into LBJ is as far as it's gonna go. They could have easily forced a game 7 though, which is the part that sucks. Indy just played better over the course of the series and it was too apparent.
