[ALL] Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

there are way to many great games out right now. i was gonna buy this at launch but i think i'm gonna ask for it for xmas and hopefully by that time i'll have beat or gotten bored with what i've got right now.

not to mention i've got 2 weeks off at the end of the year so maybe i'll convince the wife to give me one gift early and it better be the right fucking gift.
 
Going to be a Nord and be pretty much all combat. Having the Dragon Shouts should help a lot in making up for a lack of magic. Probably do a more magic based character later.

I hope that this game has a good overarching story. Everything about it looks amazing, but I for whatever reason had a very hard time completing Morrowind and Oblivion because I found their main stories to be fucking dumb (Oblivion's especially). That and story has never really been Bethesda's strong suit.

Has anything been said about it without spoiling too much? Most everything that I read talks about the world and everything you can do in it (which is obviously fine, just not as strong of a motivation for me as most).

I agree. Every Bethesda game I found hasn't had that great of a story (Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls)

And basically the main story is, without giving too much out...

Dragons are back in Skyrim, nobody knows why. Also, to throw in some choas, the king of Skyrim has died and now Skyrim has found itself in the middle of a civil war.

It looks like it will be the best Bethesda game storywise thus far because well. DRAGONS.

Kind of two stories going on.

Due to the events of the past Elder Scrolls games, dragons have returned to Tamerial.

The next is a civil war. The reign of the Septims ended and the empire has been is despair since. The king of Skyrim is murdered, thus there is a civil war. One group wants to break off from the empire, meanwhile another wants to stay with the empire.

I've enjoyed their stories. Unfortunately i wasn't able to get far in Morrowind(i was young, but i do have it on my computer right now so...). But i did enjoy Fallout 3's story and Oblivions. But i will agree that the stories haven't been the strongest (Fallout's was a little better).

But the side quest are always entertaining.

I think it should be the best one yet (that i've played). You have the option to choose one of the sides in the civil war, and like Peyman said, they're dragons in it.

i will be a mage. not sure which class since it doesnt really matter. I like the look of the dark elves and high elves, but i think i would choose a breton since its a mage class that will probably have good starting skills and perks

Ok so I'm COMPLETELY new to this. Never played an Elder Scrolls game before, I don't mind RPG's at all, just haven't played any since FFXIII (which I didn't care for cause it was so linear).

But all the hype this game has been getting and some previews I've checked out the game looks pretty sweet. I'm not missing out on anything by not playing the previous games am I?

I've been craving a solid RPG experience and I'm debating about picking this up on a limb and dishing out the $60.

And can it also be played online?

there will be lots of references and such and the story will mean alot more to a player who's played the other titles, but you're right, you don't need to know the lore to appreciate it I'm sure.
