NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that Jeff Fisher will not be back as Titans coach if Vince Young returns to the roster.

Fisher's contract allows him to play the quarterback he wants, and at this point owner Bud Adams is intent on keeping Young, despite advice from other club officials. "Unless Adams changes his mind, it's over," writes La Canfora. Fisher would surely land on his feet if axed, so he's probably not too worried. The Titans' head coaching job would then become less desirable, with a meddling owner committed to a quarterback lacking leadership skills.

e: As for the whole VY situation (I'm not saying he's great, but he's better than what most of you think), I don't mind if he's gone as well. I just don't like any quarterback in this draft besides Andrew Luck and Pat Devlin, so unless we can get someone in FA, then why not stick with your starting quarterback for one more year before his contract runs out? One of the two need to go though or both.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by Brett Favre/Aaron Rodgers, but if I was a Titans fan, I would be extremely frustrated about going into another season with Vince Young as the starting quarterback. Dude always ends up injured, on suicide watch, etc. Fuck that guy, it's time to draft a QB.

VY is in that category that Vick use to be in where fans would always say, "He wins games," which he does have a winning record, but realistically I'm not sure he has the emotional stability or leadership qualities that you would want for your franchise QB. The team should draft someone, but I'm not sure how VY would respond to that.

I also think it was time for Fisher to go, but the organization is going to miss him greatly. Its always hard replacing guys whe have basically been the face of an organization for many, many years who had success I say this because generally those successful coaches have a lot of say in the organization on how its operated and when they're gone people have to step into new roles and its hard finding a coach that is actually can properly manage the team, personalities, responsibilities, etc. Fans become spoiled by the success and think they can just replace the successful coach and generally that is not the case.

I think his success has been a total illusion lifted up by his two straight 13-3 seasons in '99 and '00.

Fisher benefitted from a fairly weak division for the majority of this decade. Jacksonville and Houston have combined for four winning seasons since the inception of the AFC South in 2002 (JAX with 3, HOU with 1). In that time, Fisher and the Titans have only managed to match that with 4.

Fisher has always been a bit of a snake when it comes to the media and his image, which is why this idea that he is super successful is out there. He's a PR man with no real knack for X's and O's, as evidenced by the last two years.

He'll land softly somewhere else and be consistently mediocre there as well.

You say 6 winning season I say he's 142-120 for his career. I'm not saying he's worthy of being compared to the games' elite coach in Belichick, but Fisher has been a solid/good coach for the better part of his career.

No, they can't get by with Kerry. He's still a good backup and I would welcome him back in that role, but he can't hold up for the entire 16-game season anymore because his skills are deteriorating and he's very inconsistent.

I said in my first post that I don't like any of the quarterbacks in this class besides Luck and Devlin (maybe Mallett, but he's really iffy on me), so one more year of VY or even dropping him and signing someone out of FA is what I want.

Like I said, one of the two have to go, if not both. If Fisher does stay, then Vince needs to go and Fisher needs to fire Chuck Cecil and be on an extremely short leash next season.

I'm a Texas fan, we have the same thing with Mack Brown. And Fisher has done a TERRIBLE job as CEO this season, especially with his handling of the VY situation. I'm certainly not on VY's side, as he's too immature for me, but the Head Coach needs to act like the bigger man in that situation, which Fisher didn't do.

I'm a Texas fan, we have the same thing with Mack Brown.

Being a good coach involves understanding that you need the right people around you to be successful. Admitting that is important. IMO fans get too caught up on who's an X's and O's of coach and who isn't.....some people are good at X's and O's while others are great at personnel, team management, dealing with personalities, etc. In the end its about winning football games and Mack Brown and Jeff Fisher do that.

I'm a Ravens fan. Jon Harbaugh is a CEO type of coach, but that's what he's good at. I don't fault him for not getting into the offensive huddle and then running to the defensive huddle to draw up some plays or make adjustments......that's what he has a coaching staff that specializes in specific areas for.
