Fucking Fantastic Movie!!

 

Do you think it was going to fall at the end? What a great fucking way to end it. I couldn't think of a better ending

 

I doubt there is a definitive way to prove either way, like you said just a fantastic ending that sparks speculation.

I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a very good job, even though I wish his character didn't have very much depth. Ellen Page did better than I expected as well.


The most though-provoking thing for me was....

 

When Leo and his wife are in "limbo" they first show them killing themselves together as young people. Later on though there was a shot of them holding hands as very old people. I couldn't figure out exactly how that part of the plot worked....

Probably going to have to go see it again to be honest lol

The way I looked at it was the hid it from the audience at first because they show the scene of them walking and then laying on the tracks young and then after he reveals to Ellen Page that they were there for 50 years they show the exact same scenes just as them old. At first they wanted to just show you that they were there, then a little twist was they were actually there for 50 years and that he did have a lifetime with her and he needed to let go.

Me personally feel like the top was going to fall, but Ive ran it over my head a dozen times and you can make a legitimate case that it kept spinning, which is why I love the ending. You can interpret it your own way. Something that I loved about Shutter Island

The fact that they did not show DiCaprio coming out of limbo exactly, in addition to the way that they had an emphasis on each of the characters in the airport made it feel somewhat surreal.

The fact that the children exactly replicated their poses from his original memory also makes me think it might be a dream. Also, I don't think they specified how long he had been away from them, but they seemed to not be any older than his memories of them

Very possible. Like I said I cant wait to rewatch it.

 

The reason I think its not limbo is because the Tourist died 5-10 minutes before Cobbs, and when Cobbs goes in to find him hes aged dramatically because hes been stuck there, and because Cobbs was stuck there before he kept his reality with him and when he reminded the Tourist about their deal they escaped Limbo. When Leo wakes up on the plane, everyone's looking at him like he was still asleep and they were waiting for him to awake, and when he glances at the Tourist who makes the call, they seem to have that thank you stare for helping him realize reality. The thing with the kids was I believe Leo finally getting that 2nd chance to say there name and have them turn around at him. They never specify how long he was actually on the run, and even if it was 1-2 years they cant have aged dramatically. I'll have to pay more attention when I see it next time

got bored and saw it twice today, if you watch the credits, i think the kids have 3 different age groups.

 

to me, i felt that the film ended in the real world bc of the whole airport ending, i dont see why they would show the airport then end with it being all a dream, also his totem looked like it was a few seconds away from falling. Overall i really liked the story, and liked how, possibly, Leo got over his wife and let her go, so now she wont fuck up anymore of the dreams he is in.

The movie itself is basically Leo's version of atonement as he's still trapped in Limbo and is creating everything we see on screen as a coping mechanism.

All because he thought he merked his wife for real.

The depth of this doesn't quite reach Memento but it's close imo

Saw it last night. Excellent movie. I honestly thought all the actors did perfect performances.

I have really found a new appreciation for Leo after Shutter Island and Inception. He's turning out to be one of my favorite actors.

I actually liked Joseph Gordon Levitt more as an actor in this movie.

 

The fight scene in the hallway as the van is falling into the water is one of the best fight scenes i've seen.

I have been a fan of Leo's for a while now. How about Catch Me if You Can? After that movie I've liked him.

Leo really got me with The Departed. He sold me...him and Donny Wahlburg. He cracks me up.
