AP - St. Louis, MO - As baseball closes another chapter it can start writing the history of the "official" second half of the season. With the All-Star break comes fun, laughs, and good times. With the passing of the All-Star break, teams in the lead get focused, teams trailing try to get pumped, and teams left in the dust, try to salvage a little bit of pride.
Baseball now turns to the second half of the season with the All-Star game behind it. Looking to advance forward in the season and move ever-so closer to October baseball, or more importantly, the fall classic. The American League All-Stars did away with the National League All-Stars Monday night with the score 3-2. The Indians showed well, except for Fausto Carmona who was responsible for the two spot put on the board by the National League.
The Indians fielded four players, their fifth, Kerry Wood stayed in the bullpen. It was a favor that Eric Wedge asked of Manager Terry Francona, to keep Wood rested. Wood has been doing a lot of work this season earning the Indians saves in over half of their wins so far on the year. Wedge asked that Wood be kept safe during this week so he can focus on racking up more saves should they need them on the second half of the year.
The honors though of MVP didn't go to a member of the Tribe, but yet. To a member of the New York Yankees, Mr. Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez has been facing a lot of issues this season involving steroids and rumors, it was nice for Alex to get an award that showed that he can still ignore the media and focus on the game at hand. And for this season, at least, get the American League home field advantage in the World Series.
