The fact that you even have to sink and compare Cutler to Orton should tell you how bad he's playing. Chicago shouldn't have given up a bunch of draft picks and cap space for a player comparable to Orton.

Sidenote - Cutler threw 2 more redzone INTs today. He leads the league by far in redzone INTs over the last two years.

It sucks being a Bears fan right now, a few weeks ago they were saying "well at least we got Johnny Knox with that extra pick Denver gave us." Well Denver got Robert Ayers with that 1st rounder they got from Chicago and he scored more TDs this week than Cutler.

Ayers scored more TDs than Orton, too.


This is just my opinion. I initially thought this trade was stupid for both teams, because neither QB fit into the other team's "system". I think we are seeing this now, as opposing defenses have figured out both Orton and Cutler.

Orton has done better with Denver because he isn't asked to do as much. He isn't very accurate, but he is a smart decision-maker and can complete passes within 10-15 yards of the line of scrimmage.

Cutler is asked to do a lot more with worse surrounding talent. I think people knew to expect more INTs because Cutler takes more chances. What I don't understand is how inept Ron Turner and Lovie Smith are. Why do you keep allowing Cutler to throw pass after pass in the red zone? Why not give the ball to Matt Forte? Last night, the Niners never figured out how to stop the screen to Forte...the Bears ran it a few times with great success, but when they got near the goal-line they just stopped giving the ball to Forte. Retarded.

So, I think Cutler is more talented than Orton, but Josh McDaniels is a WAY better coach than Ron Turner/Lovie Smith, which really helps out Orton.

Not really. Long term, I'd rather have Cutler + some form of an offensive line.

Plus, why are people comparing INTs, both players are asked to do dramatically different things.

Orton has 269 attempts this year in 8 games (33.6 attempts/game). Cutler has 338 in 9 (37.5 a/g).

Orton has 18 passes of 20+ yards. Cutler has 36 of 20+.

Cutler has 14 TDs, Orton has 9.

Different offenses, different talent, different coaching.

1. I still like the trade, because it has exposed Turner. He had built in excuses, now it is on him to get the best out of his talent.

2. The Orton-Cutler comparisons are silly. What would kill Cutler in Chicago is if the draft picks that Denver have turn out to be studs. Chicago will run Cutler out of town, saying we could of had Orton, Stud #1, and Stud #2.

Turner does not know how to get a QB into a rhythm of a game. There are things the OC can do to stop pressure. Screens, draws, he does nothing.

Also, I just love how LOVIE is distancing himself from the O. He is Head Coach in name only. It shows he has no influence on the O at all. Turner will get fired and LOVIE will have a stay of execution.

In theory, this is correct. But since it would probably be Jerry Angelo making those draft picks for the Bears, we can say with 95% certainty that the Bears would not be getting Stud #1 and Stud #2.

Just look at the latest Angelo fiasco, Chris Williams. He was a top pick, he didn't play last year, he was so inept in training camp this year that he was slated at RT (how many teams draft RT with top 10 picks?), and he has been horrendous this year. In the Niners game the only thing he accomplished was costing his team 15 yards at the end of the game with an unnecessary roughness penalty...and he still didn't even hit anybody!

Again, I agree with you. I was referring to the Chicago dumb. They would be saying we could of had those guys.

The trade was a no brainer for Angelo, he didn't have to worry about screwing up yet another draft or drafts.

Yeah, I agree. 52 passes or whatever the fuck it is, is way too much especially in a game that close, but that offensive line is pathetic and Forte looked REAL slow yesterday. So I can SORT OF see Turner's reasoning, but he completely abandons the run in the red zone which makes no sense to me.

Yeah, this was the first game in a long time where Lovie's Bears lost a game to team in which the Bears were probably even with their opponent talent-wise. The Bears usually beat the teams they should beat, and they lose to the teams they should lose to.
