for Christ's sake, Manning broke the record for most interceptions thrown by a rookie quarterback, along with leading his team to a dismal 3-13 record.

look how he turned out... I don't buy into the bad team damaging a the goods because of losing.

not everyone steps into a winning team as a first time starter at the QB position, in fact, most of the time its the other way around. not everyone is as lucky as Brady to step up into a team that was already good.

It's hilarious to me how people are so hard on Russell because he is a Raider.

Russell threw 13 TD's and 8 INT's last year playing behind a broken down OLine full of 2nd stringers and rookie WR's.

For the record, Joe Flacco threw 14 TDs and 12 INTs last season. Matt Ryan was 16 & 11.

Russell is fine. He just needs more time and consistency in his offensive scheme & coaching stff. Garcia will help him with his work ethic and reading defenses.

It will take a couple years before Russell gets it, and Raider fans understand that and are willing to wait, unlike the rest of the NFL.

161 YPG and a completion percentage just over 50 is not good no matter how you slice it. Really, that's asking your QB to have 40 yards passing per quarter..

Matt Ryan showed more in a month than Jamarcus Russell has shown in his career. Stats aren't everything.. Seneca Wallace had 11 TD and 3 INT on a 4-12 team last year and no one is talking him up as some great QB in the making... well no one sane anyway.

Russell has all the talent to make it. It's just a matter of time before he learns how to read coverages and starts becoming a leader. He had a few great games last season that everyone wants to ignore.

It's too early to call him a bust or say he sucks yet all of you continue to do so. The guy has started 18 games. That's all I'm saying.

Ok, you want to argue that JaMarcus Russell and Seneca Wallace are on the same talent level when it comes to the QB position. That's fine. I don't feel like arguing that because it is ridiculous, IMO. But if you really believe Seneca Wallace is as talented and has as much potential as Russell then you are batshit crazy.

And it's not just cuz Russell is "my guy." I don't judge players based on their rookie seasons. I give every single player at least 2-3 seasons before the word "bust" even comes out of my mouth.

I have always been a Vince Young hater and have said that I think he will be a bust and will never amount to anything, but I still won't label him a bust just yet because he hasn't played in the same offense for 2-3 years yet.

If you want to label Russell a bust after playing 18 games for the worst franchise in the NFL (in the last 5 years) then go right ahead. You are quicker to judge than I am. That's all it boils down to.

Garcia won't be starting by week 1. Garcia is coming in to compete for the number 2 spot. That has been made clear.

Russell has had some durability issues so I bet you Garcia will see some starting time this season but he's not coming into to take over the number 1 spot, that's for sure.

A little competition never hurt anyone. Russell will have Garcia to push him which will make him a better player and a harder worker. Again, this is a great move by Oakland for so many reasons.

The only way Garcia goes to Oakland is if they promise him an open competition for the starting QB job. Who do you think you have a better shot to win with. A young developing QB who still might need time before he can lead a team or a QB that has had a QB rating above 90 his past three seasons and has made the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 seasons. No one is saying Russel isnt the QB of the future, e just needs more time to develop.

If Russell is hurt or just plays extremely poorly then I can see Garcia getting the nod and I have no problem with it.

I've always been a fan of Garcia's toughness and leadership. If he can make the Raiders a better team and Russell can learn by watching then I hope they go with Garcia. But if Russell is ready, and he has shown that he can win by winning the last 3 games of the season last year and playing pretty damn well, then throw him in until he fucks up.

You're acting like Ryan got drafted by an 11-5 team, a consistent playoff threat.
The Atlanta Falcons were anything but that before they drafted Ryan. In fact, they were a weaker team than Oakland before they drafted Ryan.

There were a good deal of personnel & philosophy changes in ATL also, they really didn't know what they had. When they found out what they had was pretty good, including a great running game (a qb's best friend), the game became much easier for Ryan.

You're right, but Russell still played pretty well in that game. Not his fault they lost as the Raiders fell behind by 3 or 4 TDs in the 1st quarter if I remember correctly.

Either way, he's a rookie. Peyton Manning had a worse rookie season than JaMarcus Russell. I bet you there were thousands of people saying Manning would be a bust and that the Colts should have gone with Ryan Leaf after Manning's rookie season.

It's way too early to tell.

The Raiders had the worst WR core in the league last year as two rookie's were starting by years end and a 2nd year tight end. Not to mention a couple degenerate o-linemen blocking for him, a rookie halfback, and his coach was fired 3 games into the season. Despite all of that, he played ok and showed that he is not going to turn the ball over.

Every other QB in the league is given so much to pan out but because JR is a Raider and everyone hates the Raiders people want to scream BUST so badly.
