I'll admit I was a bit wrong about McDaniels. I didn't see him being dumb enough to sit Marshall and Scheffler with the playoffs on the line and Royal also out.

Going 8-8 isn't really anything to be embarrassed about for the Broncos though. But this offseason is going to be critical for McDaniels Ayers/Moreno have been "meh" so far, and if the Broncos don't draft well and come out of this Marshall situation unscathed he's gonna be on his way out soon.

These are the sorts of games we can never win. In all honesty I'd be surprised if we can move to 3-1 but it will be a close game.

LOL at Broncos fans criticizing Shanahan's tenure and saying going 2-8 in your last 10 games isn't embarrassing.

The Broncos gave up 44 points at home to one of the worst teams in the NFL (KC) with the playoffs still a possibility. Truly horrendous, and quite honestly one of the worst collapses in the history of professional football. The Broncos started 6-0 in a season when 9-7 was good enough for the postseason...they somehow defeated 4 eventual division winners in the first 6 games...and then they MISS THE PLAYOFFS COMPLETELY, suffering SIX (!) blowout losses (10+ points) in their final 10 games. SIX!!!

Denver is "THAT TEAM" this year; as in, the team that starts hot and everybody is slobbing the knob of......and then they fall off the wagon and show their true colors, finishing the year with atrocious play and a poor record making all the "experts" look stupid.

The same goes the other way; this years Cincinnati Bengals are "THE TEAM". The one who comes out of nowhere to be a good team (a la Miami last year).

You have these phenomenons every year. So.....Denver fans, plan your Jan-Feb appropriately right now, you aren't going to the playoffs

Big Deal. Killa Pand predicted that Kyle Orton would throw for 3001 yards, and Orton actually threw for 3802.

First, its amazing that someone would have the ESP to predict a mediocre starting QB in the NFL would throw for 3000 yards. That would be like predicting a mediocre team such as Denver to finish 8-8, or a decent starting RB to rush for 1000 yards. Where does Killa Pand come up with this stuff?

Second, its amazing that Killa Pand was only over 800 yards off on his prediction. I predicted that Chris Johnson would rush for 3000 yards this year, but he ended up with only 2006...so I was also nearly only 800 yards off in my prediction, too. Props to me!

I'm the only one criticizing Shanahan I believe, and the way Denver finished this season was like a mirror image of what's happened under Shanahan. I don't see anyone criticizing Shanahan and defending McDaniels.

The ironic thing out of Denver is everyone wants MCDaniels fired because he went 8-8, which was a staple of Shanahan the last 3 years. Blowlout losses at home, to inferior teams, a staple of Shanahan the last 10 years.

Whats odd is that when they listed the teams in NFL history who started 6-0 and ended up missing the playoffs, I didn't see any of Shanahan's teams on the list. I did see one of McDaniels' teams, though.

Not really. After Elway retired, Shanahan had a stretch of seasons of:

11-5, 8-8, 9-7, 10-6, 10-6, 13-3, 9-7

I've bolded the seasons which were superior to McDaniels' season. Not exactly a great comparison.

All things considered 8-8 isn't a bad season for the Broncos this year. Yes the 2-8 finish is terrible and they did some incredibly dumb things down the stretch but this is a team that was going through major transitions. I believe they switched from a 4-3 to 3-4, switched their offense and out of the ZBS, new QB.

They need to build on it going forward though.

Yes it is. All things considered....consider then that they started 6-0 with all things you have in your last sentence then sucked for the better part of 10 weeks.

"All things considered...didn't have a bad season." Is what the Patriots had last season going 10-6 while losing Tom Brady and starting Matt Cassel.

The way the season ended was highly disappointing. The coaching staff did a great job of hiding the teams weaknesses through the first six weeks (Scrubs like Kenny Peterson and Ben Hamilton) and then things fell apart.

As long as Mike Nolan remains in Denver, our defense will be at least competitive, and the offense should improve greatly after McDaniels gets another offseason to acquire players that fit his system.

It was a horrible year for the Broncos. They lost a pro bowl QB and replaced him with Kyle Orton. They went from having the #3 passing offense in the league last year to the #13 passing offense this year. They alienated their best player in Brandon Marshall. They also alienated their best TE in Tony Scheffler. Their #1 draft choice Knowshon Moreno looked bad. Their 2008 breakout player Eddie Royal went from having 1100 yards from scrimmage in 2008 to being a "return specialist" in 2009. Their defense played much better in 2009, but most of those guys are in their 30's and not getting younger. I don't know if Dawkins and Law will be around next year.

Basically, there is very little to build on.

They need to get production out of Ayers ASAP and do something with that 1st they got from the Bears this year. Running Marshall out of town is gonna be stupid if/when it happens. If Scheffler leaves too McD better hope that TE he drafted early was worth it.

Ty Law is pretty much irrelevant but yeah I dn't know how much guys like Bailey/Dawkins have left.

Ok, but all the "things" that you put into "consideration" for the Broncos not having a bad season were still true at the start of the year when they went tearing off to a 6-0 start. It's not as though they switched to the 3-4, went away from the zone blocking, and got a new QB in Week 7. You'd reall yonly have an argument if the team start 0-6 and ended up 8-8.....like the Titans. Not the other way around...like the Broncos.
