We often hear about fans being upset over players taking the money and not concerning themselves with winning, yet in LBJ we have clearly a superstar player who put winning over his own legacy and earnings. I still think LBJ will go down as the greatest SF ever and be among the top players ever, but this move obviously will taint him in some people’s eyes, which is too bad.
At the end of the day to be considered among the greats (MJ, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Kobe, etc) LBJ needs multiple championships and I never saw that happening with the Cavs. One or even two championships wouldn’t have been enough and anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves. LBJ’s presence along made a below average team a 60 win team. At least with this move he puts himself in position to win multiple titles as this will be the standard and expectation from within the organization.
Having said that I would have liked for him to go to Chicago, but I’m not sure players of LBJ or Wade’s caliber want to play under Jordan’s shadow, because whatever they do would never be enough.
