I really don't see how anyone can hate Bonds for steroid use any more. Everyone was using them, EVERYONE. This is incredible how many of the big time players are coming out as PED users. I think the MLB is banking on Pujols, if he comes up dirty, the game's credibility is done.

Yup, if Pujols ever tests positive I'm done with baseball for good. Although I honestly believe if Pujols tested positive they'd just get rid of the evidence and never let it get out.

Former major league pitcher Tom House used steroids during his career and said performance-enhancing drugs were widespread in baseball in the 1960s and 1970s, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

House, perhaps best known for catching Hank Aaron's 715th home run ball in 1974 in the Atlanta Braves' bullpen, said he and several teammates used amphetamines, human growth hormone and "whatever steroid'' they could find in order to keep up with the competition.

"I pretty much popped everything cold turkey,'' House told the Chronicle in a story published Tuesday. "We were doing steroids they wouldn't give to horses. That was the '60s, when nobody knew. The good thing is, we know now. There's a lot more research and understanding.''

House, a former pitching coach with the Texas Rangers and co-founder of the National Pitching Association near San Diego, is one of the first players to describe steroid use as far back as the 1960s.

House became the pitching coach for the Texas Rangers in 1985, during which time he was notable for his work with Nolan Ryan. During Ryan's induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 25, 1999, he credited House as a positive influence on his career, saying:

"While I was [with the Rangers] I was very fortunate to have a pitching coach by the name of Tom House. And Tom and I are of the same age and Tom is a coach that is always on the cutting edge. And I really enjoyed our association together and he would always come up with new training techniques that we would try and see how they would work in to my routine. And because of our friendship and Tom pushing me, I think I got in the best shape of my life during the years that I was with the Rangers."

I'm not saying for sure, but the culture of that late 80s early 90s Rangers was filled with steroids. It's not an indicement, it's just a possibility.

That story is ridiculous. The first section mentions that House played for the Braves in the 1970's...when did Nolan Ryan pitch for the Braves? He spent most of the 70's with the Angels in the AL. The second section mentions House became the Rangers pitching coach in 1985....thats nice, but Ryan didn't pitch for the Rangers until 1989. LOL at the comment that House was notable for his work with Nolan Ryan...huh? Thats like saying Eric Mangini was notable for his work with Brett Favre.


I think Ryan was a good pitcher for a couple years with Texas before he got too old, but I don't really see any big uptick in his performance. He had arm problems in 1985 and 1986, but after that he basically pitched at the same level of performance from 1987-1991. I guess its possible, but I don't think the Tom House connection holds any water, and if he was on steroids with the Rangers, its weird that he wasn't any more or less effective than his last few years with the Astros.

I read it verbatim...House became Rangers pitching coach in 1985, four years before Ryan threw a single pitch for Texas, and during this incorrect timeperiod House became "notable" for his work with Nolan Ryan. Meaning, he became "notable" to the public, not "notable" to Nolan Ryan personally. I don't remember Tom House busting onto the scene because of his work with Nolan Ryan. As I said before, which you were too dense to understand, House had been the pitching coach with Texas for 4 years before Ryan was on the team, and Ryan's performance did NOT dramatically improve once he came under House's tutelage. He was a HOFer before he went to the Rangers.

Plus there were logical arguments that could have been made for Papi.

He went from the Twins where they sorta frown on free-swinging guys and asked him not to just be a raw power hitter and his numbers reflected that. Decent power numbers, not staggering strikeout rates. Then he goes to Boston his strikeout rate went up like crazy as did his power numbers. So it was an almost defensible rise in power numbers.

As a Barry Bonds fan I can't tell you how happy this shit makes me. I don't even know why, maybe it's because every single person I ever ran into hated Bonds with a passion and acted like their favorite players or other players were not taking anything.

I think MLB is going to get royally screwed over these names leaking out. If I took an "anonymous" test and my results were later leaked, I would be suing the hell out of the test administrator.
