Clement throws last pitch, Burres called up

BALTIMORE, MD -- After waiting for nearly two months, Brian Burres will finally get his shot at pitching on a major league diamond on June 2 when the Blue Jays host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at the Rogers Center.

The man he will be replacing, Matt Clement, pitched terribly in his four game stint with the major league club compiling a 0-0 record with a 7.45 ERA in 4 starts. The former Red Sox pitcher had replaced Casey Janssen in early-May but had quickly established a reputation as a four and done pitcher. He came off a bad ten hit, four run performance in last night's 7-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in which he had his longest start of the season, albeat it was only five innings.

"Matt wasn't great but we're very excited to see what Brian can do for us because of the amazing job he has done in Triple-A with the 51's." Jays GM J.P. Riccardi said of the former Baltimore Oriole who had a 7-10 record with a 6.04 ERA last season with the other AL East Birds.

Burres had compiled a 5-2 record with a 1.48 ERA in 9 starts with the 51's, one of the worst teams in Triple-A while maintaining a positive attitude towards being called up.

"I knew that if I played up to my ability they would not be able to say no and look what happened." A grinning Burres said at Las Vegas International Airport last night before leaving on a flight to join the team in Baltimore.

Brian Burres is back, and hopefully for the Jays, better then ever.
