Snider out a month with inflamed hip

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Nearly a month after being sent down to Triple-A after a nightmare start to the season with the big club, Travis Snider's season took another turn for the worst when he was diagnosed with an inflamed hip that will keep him out 3-4 weeks.

Snider's injury game in the third inning of a game versus Syracuse went he landed awkwardly after fielding a fly ball. Snider left the game for precautionary reasons and was given the bad news a day later.

"It's tough obviously but hopefully this can turn my year around and maybe when I can get back, I can perform up to a level I should." Snider said after being told the bad news.

Snider had been hitting .333 with 1 home run and 10 RBIs in the month he'd been in Triple-A after being sent down to make room for Jim Edmonds on the big club. He was rated as the number five prospect in the minors by Baseball America this past season.

SAN DIEGO, CA-- Some people would call Josh Banks lucky, others would call him cursed, but something everyone can agree on calling him is jet lagged.

Look at Banks' past week and anyone would feel a little bit sick. That's because the 25 year old rookie pitcher -- who was sent down on Wednesday -- caught a five hour flight to Philadelphia only to be told by team personnel to hop back on to go back to San Diego.

The right hander, who had been pitching with an 0-3 record with a 5.66 ERA thru four starts, was sent down to the Padres minor league affiliate of Portland, on a road trip in Philly after the person he replaced, Josh Geer, got back from an abdominal injury. Banks was told he wasn't needed anymore and to hope on the next flight to Philly, the problem was in that night's game versus the Dodgers, a 7-3 loss, another starter -- Cha Seung Baek -- was injured.

Six hours later, Banks was heading back to San Diego in time for the team's flight to Colorado.

"I didn't sleep that night, that's for sure." Banks joked at the Padres' hotel in Denver.

He will make his first start after being called up a second time on Wednesday versus the Texas Rangers in the Padres' first interleague game of the season.
