Scutaro back in starting role for Jays

TORONTO, ON (AP) -- A day after going 0-4 at the plate including a bases loaded strikeout, John McDonald surrendered the position he won in early May back to the incumbant, Marco Scutaro.

McDonald had been hitting .235 in the month of June and .277 total with 2 home runs and 17 RBIs while being utilized primarily for his defensive play. The problem for McDonald has been that he hasn't been his regular defensive shortstop and has committed six errors at the shortstop position this season, more than the past two seasons combined.

"Johnny Mac is a great guy but he's known for his defense and this year that defense has not been shown," Manager Cito Gaston said of the shortstop,"Hopefully John can work with our fielding coach and regain the skills I know he has."

Scutaro has been on a tear in the month of June hitting .419 with 7 RBIs. He is hitting .358 total with no homers and 10 RBI. The former Oakland Athletic is expected to suit up at shortstop when the Blue Jays open a three game series against the division rival Tampa Rays Monday at Rogers Center.

"I'm grateful for this chance and hopefully I can prove it was a good decision by Cito by working hard and helping this team win some games."

Yeah, you could try that. Maybe just switch them out so Rolen plays DH against lefties and Edmonds against righties? Or do you already do that?

But yeah, you could play Jimmy full time and maybe look to get something out of Rolen while you can.
