KANSAS CITY, KS-- The Kansas City Royals had hope after last season's surprise 76-86 finish. They believed this would finally be the year they could contend for the AL Central title and a key part of that dream was the ability of ace Gil Meche.

Now the Royals have to do it without Meche who will be out half a month with a fractured arm he suffered in a recent start versus the Minnesota Twins.

"It's dissapointing of course but I think we can make do without Gil for a while." Royals GM Dayton Moore said of the injury.

Meche's injury will give former number one pick Luke Hocheaver a chance to prove himself. Hocheaver was picked second in the 2006 draft and has done little at the Major League level.

Game Recap:

After a rest day on Monday the Toronto Blue Jays were refreshed and relaxed going into their upcoming series against the Texas Rangers.

What they got was stress and anger.

The Blue Jays let another mediocre pitcher walk all over them, this time former Chicago White Sox Brandon McCarthy who surrendered only two runs in seven innings of work. The two runs? Solo home runs from Adam Lind and Vernon Wells.

Wells hit his unprecedented fifth solo home run of the season and his third game in which he's hit a home run, all of them during the streak have been solo shots.

"Right now Vernon is playing the best baseball I have ever seen him play but there's really no point in him hitting bombs if he can't take anyone to the plate with him. In fact it seems that the two hitters who in hit in front of Wells have a tougher time hitting in that spot then if they are moved behind Wells in the order.

"Yes but I would expect that. Pitchers don't want guys on base when V-Dub comes up because they know what he can do." Jays shortstop John McDonald said of the dubious distinction.

On the other side, Texas hit three home runs (all solo shots) and had numerous close calls. Josh Hamilton contributed two doubles on the afternoon while his platoon mate Chris Davis hit a shot in the sixth inning and finished with three RBIs on the day.

"That lineup is stacked man. It's every pitchers nightmare to play Texas." Blue Jays closer B.J. Ryan explained of the dangerous Texas lineup.

The teams renew acquantinces tomorrow when Jays ace Roy Halladay takes the hill against Scott Feldman.

Game Recap:

Another game, another struggle for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Jays average a little over two runs per game and it seems like the big bats -- excluding six home run man Vernon Wells -- are still in a February mindset.

Today the Jays only offensive output was a three run homer from struggling lead off man Alex Rios, batting only .178 entering play tonight. Rios' homer came off righty Scott Feldman, yet another in a long line of mediocre pitchers made good while pitching to the Jays.

"I felt great out there man. It's still early remember, this start doesn't neccessarily derail our chances of making the playoffs." Rios said after the game last night.

The Jays record says otherwise through as they are 5-11 going into the series finale with Texas and have yet to play an AL East game.While the Jays may find some solitude in the fact that it is still April and it is not uncommon for hitters to bat cold in the month.

Still, when Feldman pitches like Johan Santana and your ace is giving up two run doubles to Jared Saltalamacchia, you should be worried.

The Jays, through, apparantly aren't.

I can't even play this anymore.
I'm tired of getting one run off of fucking terrible pitchers and then getting scored on 10 times when halladay's on the mound.
This game is beautiful but it's not for me, it's fucking annoying to be playing the same shiit game all over again and I can't put up with this shit for 162 games

We'll see if I keep this up, it will really depend upon when I feel like playing again. I was real pissed today, I lost 9-1 with Matt Harrison pitching like Lincecum. I shut my game off after the last out without saving because I was pissed.

Janssen, Litsch in danger of being sent down

TORONTO -- A day after being beaten in a close 4-3 game against the Texas Rangers to move their record to 5-11, Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston finally publicly spoke for the first time this season about the issues with pitchers Casey Janssen and Jesse Litsch.

Janssen, who was most recently one the losing end of an 8-2 game with Oakland, has not gone longer then four innings in a start this season and currently owns a 0-2 record and a 11.56 ERA. The Orange, California native is coming off of Tommy John Surgery which kept him out all of last season and was converted to a starting pitcher this offseason after the injuries to key starters Shawn Marcum and Dustin McGowan.

"I'm not going to beat around the bush, Casey has been terrible for us this year," Gaston said after the game at Rogers Center yesterday," As of now we are leaning towards sending him down to [Triple-A] Las Vegas and see how it goes but we'll see."

Meanwhile, Litsch - who pitches in the final game of the Rangers series tonight - has lost all of his starts and going into play today has an 0-3 record with a 4.74 ERA. Litsch was one of the surprises of the season last year when he opened the year with a 9-3 record and narrowly missed being an All Star choice, Litsch would fade in the second half and would finish 3-6 for a total record of 13-9. He was counted on by the Jays to be a good stopgap for the Jays between Roy Halladay and the rest of the rotation but has not fulfilled that moniker yet.

"Jesse has not been the best this year of course but looking at his starts, he hasn't gotten the offensive production that this team needs to give." Gaston said.

A decision about each pitchers fate is expected after tonight's final game of the Rangers series when Litsch goes against young Ranger lefty Matt Harrison (1-1, 9.72 ERA) at the Rogers Center.
