I can't see the UFC deciding to bring in guys like Aoki, Hansen, Calvacante, etc. They make a lot of money in Japan. Not just from the promotions, but from sponsors. So you can't expect the fighters to take a pay cut to jump, not unless there's no other option. And its not really a great business move for the UFC to pay these guys huge money when they are relatively unknown to the average fight fan. They definitely are amongst the best in the world, but the names don't carry any value except to hardcore fans. Its a bad risk in a business sense.

look at the WEC (UFC owned), they are really brining in some good talent at the 145 and 135 weight classes

It does make the title less meaningful for those who know the sport outside the UFC. Same as anyone claiming there's no one out there for Anderson Silva to fight at 185 - unless you actually know something about MMA outside the UFC, you're probably likely to believe that. The UFC knows that the majority of their fans at this point are limited in their knowledge outside the promotion. I've given up on hoping the UFC will cater to the hardcore fans for the most part.

cant say i really know any of the fighters in the grand prix (dream has all the big name fighters in their FW tourney) but lighter weight classes usually put on an exciting fight. im real interested to see how King Mo does, one of the best and exciting young fighters IMO, and despite being the can he is, thompson usually puts on exciting fights unless hes in canada and decides to go for the takedown. ill catch the fights when their up on the interwebs for sure.

I'll watch Sengoku if I can, but it doesn't interest me like finally getting to watch DREAM.7 does. More looking forward to the next Sengoku in May, mainly because Joe Doerksen is gonna be on the card.

I watch a lot of fights and people have their opinions. My opinion on Aoki is that I don’t believe that he could hang with most of the UFC lightweights today. I believe that the rules in Dream are so different with no elbows. He likes to play a lot of spider guard off of his back and rubber guard, stuff like that, and it’s hard to ground and pound someone in the guard that is latched onto you like that with no elbows. It allows for Aoki to use a lot more wrist control and stuff like that. In the UFC, if he tried to do a lot of that wrist control and stuff that he does off of his back, people would just come over the top with elbows to get the wrist release from him. Plus, I don’t believe that he could take down or pull guard on half of the guys in the UFC. I think a lot of the guys in the UFC would stuff his takedowns and just beat him up standing. Half of the guys in the UFC would just murder him standing. Plus, he could get stacked against the cage and that would hurt him, big time. The UFC is filled with a lot of great wrestlers and I think that would kill him. It’s hard to say, we’ll see if Aoki is ever brave enough to ever come over to the UFC, we’ll see.

or maybe the UFC guys should come to japan so they cant smash people into the cage or get kneed in the head when they turtle up...

also, spider guard is played with a gi on, aoki uses more of a de la riva guard and rubber guard

Last time I saw Jason Guida fight was the October ShoXC show. He was brutal, and not in a good way. He basically gave up and then got angry at the ref for stopping it, despite the fact that he was not fighting back at all. Lashley should destroy him.

tell me how silva was going to get out from the bottom against Okami

Okami is a ADCC level grappler, Maia barely beat him on points and couldnt sub him, he would smother Silva and GnP him for a win

I dont buy it.. Rob you're just anti-establishment, I love you for that. Okami was in a great position to finish Silva, but shit happens, especially with a great fighter like Silva. Theres no guaranteeing Okami would've GnP'd Silva.. hes finished a number of fighters in his career, but none the caliber of Anderson. Regardless, Okami is overdue for a title shot, no doubt, but I doubt Dana fears anyone at middleweight beating Anderson.
