I don't understand this. They basically did all this for... Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy fucking Fallon. Just fire his ass and put it back the way it was. Instead Leno tries to "revolutionize" television by doing the exact same show an hour earlier, tanks miserably, and now they kill triumph the insult comic dog just out of spite. NBC, what did Triumph ever do to you? and I have no idea where Jay comes off as hostile to Conan, he totally fucked him over.

Conan's new show is gonna dominate late night whatever network its on. I am so tired of Letterman and Leno and the same bits we've seen for years and years.

The biggest difference between Conan and Leno is how much Conan cares about his profession. When he left Late Night, he was almost overwhelmed with emotion. When he left the Tonight Show, once again he was almost overwhelmed with emotion.

What did Jay do when he left the Tonight Show? Not a single waver in his voice. It's like he knew he would get it back all along.

He has spent months behind Letterman and NBC announces a change, drama ensues, ratings for all shows go up, people start whining after this mess "poor Conan". He was the second best at what he did at that hour according to ratings which mean everything. Now he walks away with 32 million and his staff with 12 million. I find it funny that everyone only cared enough to watch after it was too late.

The fact is, Leno had the ability to start off strong and gather a fan base at 11:30. When Leno started, THERE WAS NO ONE COMPETING AGAINST HIM IN LATE NIGHT.

Absolutely no-one on any of the major networks if I am correct. Letterman, Politically Incorrect, Chevy Chase, Late Late Show, etc. were not there when Leno started. Also Leno had a strong lead-in in a drama. If Leno's ratings as a lead in were shitty, how do you expect Conan to do good?

Again, Leno had a chance to build an audience at 11:30. Conan never got that chance. And he had competition (Letterman, Kimmel, etc.)

So you're completely discounting the fact that he was promised the gig 5 years ago (because NBC was scared of losing him like they did Letterman in 92) and then they sandbagged him right after by giving Leno another show right in front of him?

Leno had Friends, Frasier, etc. to lead him in for years, and Conan gets the same guy whose shadow he was trying to get out of. Those are pretty tough circumstances for any host to overcome. Leno and NBC sandbagged him from the minute he took over.

I don't even watch late night shows, I just think Jay Leno is an unfunny fuck who needs to GTFO the air.

Mr. Leno said he would "obviously leave NBC immediately" if the network decided to give the "Tonight" show to Mr. Letterman. He said he would absolutely refuse to do a show in the 12:30 A.M. spot now occupied by Mr. Letterman's show, "Late Night," and would indeed consider creating the same problem for NBC that Mr. Letterman's proposed deal with CBS caused.

5 years ago Leno told Conan that it's all his, that no1 should host the tonight show in their 60's...And then convinced NBC to give him a show at 10[Conan's lead in]

Umm, Pretty sure NBC refused to release Jay from his contract and wanted to move him to Primetime because they thought he would go somewhere else for a while.




Again NBC's decision because they wouldn't let Leno out of his contract and if Leno just left that meant he would be sued by NBC.



Okay so NBC coming to Leno and stating they wanted to take the Jay Leno show down to half an hour, move it to 11:35 and push Conan and the Tonight Show back One half hour is such a big deal.

I don't know how much successful people you have ever really been around but to be honest, I have a lot of them around me and I've always been the nice courteous guy that doesn't want to make people mad, but the successful ones are asses, they are tough and do what it takes to succeed and not just be a doormat. There is an unwritten rule in life that you should go by and that is looking out for number 1(yourself, your family, all things immediately revolving around you). You have to do it or you will be ran over.

The guy may have done some "douchebag" things but you cannot blame him for something that wouldn't even be happening in the first place had the focal point of your argument (Conan being the best late night show host on tv) been true and people tuned in.

You are trying to pin all of these excuses on Jay Leno but there are reasons behind things. If Leno was so bad, why'd he get the ratings. Its completely logical to move Leno back to 11:35 where he has captured more viewers than Letterman for many years for just 30 minutes and then lead in with that large audience to Conan with the majority viewers to beat out Letterman for the second half of Letterman's show.

Its almost like hearing an argument that if the Lions drafted better they'd be in a better position now. They had their shot and missed it. Conan got a shot, then was told he was keeping the same show but moving back half an hour, then he made some huge ordeal about it and it ended up pissing off a bunch of people who never watched his show to begin with. Its dumb and really baffles me that you cannot see that.

The only thing that is dumb and is baffling me is your ability to have just churned out such a massive post that does not contain a single rebuttal to any of the points made.

That's exactly my problem with him. He could have easily said, "Well, I had a second chance and it didn't work," and left the network. Leno didn't have to agree to take over the Tonight Show again. Hell, he would have been 150 million dollars richer if he refused to (I believe that was the amount of his buyout in his contract).

I am pretty damn sure Leno does not have the authority to march into NBC's office and demand his being put back on after the Local News airs. I mean how many of us can just walk into our boss' office and demand to come in at a completely different time and it happen? Its not Leno's fault. Its not Conan's fault. NBC made a business decision and everyone wants to rip Leno.

I don't think anyone is placing blame completely on Leno here, but to say he had no part in it is ridiculous. If anything, Leno is a pussy because he seemingly never takes a stand for himself.

He could have easily said "no" at any of those points and none of this would have happened.

And all I am stating is the fact that right now everyone acts like they give a shit about Conan, like some distant friend's house burnt down and you want to look good so you act like your his best friend so you flock to him to be there for him. Soon after he gets settled back, you pretty much go back to life as it was. You guys are getting all upset about Conan getting shown the door and handed 32.5 million bucks but how many of you actually watched his show before any of this happened?

I watched Leno because Leno entertained me more and I found his stuff to be funny where I found Conan's to be stupid. Its just my personal opinion and you are entitled to your own but he took over a time slot and you state he is so much better than Jay Leno or Letterman but yet ratings didn't reflect that. You ask me to defend my case, my case is in your statement and claims. You state Conan>Leno, Letterman,etc. Ratings say Conan < Letterman. NBC chose to move back to a format in which was proven that Leno>Letterman. And at first this was just supposed to be a Leno move to 11:30 and only for 30 minutes but it was Conan who flipped out like he was losing the tonight show(which he would have kept, and still been an hour long, just pushed back a half hour.) Now he and his staff are being paid 45 million bucks to do nothing until September and and yet I find it funny that you want to moan, groan and bitch about that.

Maybe Conan was losing to Letterman because some of his potential audience still didn't make the switch to him because Jay was still on the air? Maybe Conan was losing to Letterman because he had a terrible lead in? Maybe Conan was losing to Letterman because it takes a little time for people to get acclimated to a new host?

Yeah, let's blame Conan for taking pride in history. The Tonight Show has been in the same time slot for, well, forever. Now Leno and NBC wants to come in and demand that the greatest television series in history be moved a half hour later just to accomodate a dickwad like Leno?

I couldn't care less about how much money Conan is making out with this. Rich people get fucked over too. Just because he has more money than I could ever dream of doesn't mean I, along with a ton of other people, shouldn't feel bad for a guy who is getting gang raped by Zucker and Leno.
