NCAA Dynasty Update Thread

I'm not going to make a post for every new game I play in my dynasty... but damn I love low-scoring defensive battles in NCAA.

I just beat Penn State 16-9 at home. They actually missed two easy FG's, but I trailed 9-3 going into the 4th quarter before I busted a 52 yard touchdown run on an iso and then kicked two FG's to give myself some breathing room.

It really was a tale of two halves though, and them missing the FG's of course. First half, they had 247 yards of total offense, second half they had just 52. First half I had 90 yards of total offense, second half I put up 139 (all of them on the ground). Stud tailback Daugherty ran 31 times for 161 yards (5.1) and the lone TD.

For those who followed my journey with put my CB at HB and seen his success. This is him:

I am still deciding if I want to put him at HB again or keep him on defense. My defense really needs him at corner because he is the highest rated (68 lol). Plus I got my 3 star insta commit HB so I dunno it will be a rough choice to make.

I decided to switch to the 3-4 defense since I have been stacked with linebackers for a few years now. It got to the point where I just couldn't get all of them enough playing time. I was starting to get guys who would leave at like 92-94 overall and not even record a tackle until their junior or senior year.

Also I just feel like switching things up a little bit and experimenting with a new defense. It's gonna make recruiting more challenging too since I have to eliminate a lot of the DEs I see. I'm thinking of stocking up on a lot of 270 lb. DTs every year (there are a lot every season) and moving them to end, or just listing them there on the depth chart. Otherwise true 3-4 ends are tough to come by.

edit- and I just got an auto commit from the #1 ATH in week 1 of recruiting. 6'4, 220, with B- speed, B acceleration, and B- strength, tackle, play recognition and pursuit. Obviously will end up as a 'backer but not sure if I'll put him inside or outside. Coverage ratings are atrocious, D- for both man and zone so I'm leaning towards inside. A little lighter than ideal but he's strong enough that I'm not too worried about it.

Ended up finishing my fourth season 9-4, losing to Miami 35-6 in the Sun Bowl. Didn't like any job offers so I'm going to stay for my 5th season at Wazzu before I move on for good.

Should be tough next year, Oregon won the NC against Boise, and USC and UCLA are both top 10 teams.

It's Over

Unranked Notre Dame beats LSU 22-16 in overtime and snaps our 40-game win streak.

It was a defensive struggle throughout, both offenses were held under 300 yards. Regulation ended with the game tied at 16-16. Notre Dame won the toss and elected to play defense.

Drive started out well, picked up a quick first down, was running it nicely, and then I decided to take a shot at the end zone. Nobody was open so I tucked it and took off up the middle, hoping to pick up a couple and make for a manageable 3rd down. There was not enough time or space for my QB to slide - he got popped from the ball side and it squirted right out. Notre Dame scored a few plays later and that was the end of the game, as well as my longest win streak in the NCAA series. Oh well, it was a good run. Had to lose eventually.

ANSWER:

Every week in recruiting if you don't have 2x, unlocked padlock, automatic signee....you will have a pink diamond. It's a 4 or 5 star recruit, who doesn't have you in his top 10 but if you add him to your list of recruit, he will put you in his top 10. They have big time schools listed but have no offers. This usually helps little school (1-2 star schools). Usually they end up signing with big schools because they come in at the end but every once in awhile, you can land a 4 star recruit. The easiest way to find them is to go to the main recruiting list (2 slots right of your recruiting board) and have them listed in order of caliber. Go down to the last 4 star recruit and press More Info. Go up the list and a pink diamond (can't miss it) will show up next to their head shot, if not, it means you will have one of the bonuses mentioned that week.

I said they help little schools because bigger schools already have 4/5 star recruits interested in them. They can come in with Ovr ratings of high 60's to high 70's. In 4 recruiting classes, I've landed 5/25 recruits I've gone after (I check every week to see if there is one available). I even landed a 5* recruit, he is only 5'10/11 but came in rated mid 70's and was the #1 WR his Freshman year.

I'm only in my second year with SMU so I just load up on 3 stars and hope a 4 star happens to fall into my lap. 3 stars are so damn varied in NCAA 11 though. Some of them will be high 60's to start while others are mid 50's.

Yeah it can be an unsettling feeling when you get a 3-star guy you think can be a solid contributor in a few years and he's sunk down in the ratings...sucks.

Right now with FIU I am basically trying to recruit every decent player I can because the team is shit. But normally I go for what I need or what and then get those people, and I do maybe 15 guys at a time. I find by week 4 I normally have half of them at least locked up either by way of insta commit or I am so far ahead I dont need to waste time of them. Of course though I have only gone through one season in any type of OD and that was my PITT dynasty, so doing this is still new to me.

IRL, FIU is probably the fastest grown program in the state. Mario Cristobal has done a fantastic job there. There is so much talent in Florida, the "Big Three" can only grab so many and FIU's location near Miami is a perfect stop for the kids who don't get an offer from "The U" or the other schools.

In NCAA though, the best way to build-up a low-prestige school is through JUCO's. Become a fucking JUCO whore and snag up as many as possible. JUCO's have higher ratings than HS prospects with the same star rating. It should help you become more competitive at an accelerated rate.

I got a fucking JEWEL of a 3 star in a HB in my Miami chise in year two. No one was recruiting him so I took a chance with his decent ratings. When he said yes to my scholly offar and came to my school I looked at his ratings and almost had a heart attack.

I had really good success wwith my QB. I had a 3 star RB commit who I think should be pretty good and can't wait to break him in. My MLB 3 star I signed should go off on defense and can't wait to see his simmed stats. I am fucking excited. This is the most addicitng NCAA ever.

That is a stud 3-star back. I don't think those come around often.

It's nice to have balance in your offense. I too have had to rely on one aspect of my offense to carry us to victory. The defensive games would be more fun, IMHO, once you are a HC. As an OC, in my 16-8 win against Utah, I was frustrated and figured my defense would blow it...thankfully they didn't though lol.

Keep him on the defensive side and use him sparingly on offense. Last thing you want is for him to be hurt and not be able to help at all. IIRC, fatigue has something to do with injuries, so you don't want to run him into the ground each game.

We are now 4-3 on the year. After the narrow victory over Kentucky, we traveled to my former school SMU and put a whooping on them 51-24. Then we upset then #9 Iowa 42-26, 25 more points than any other team had scored against them.

We lost last game 52-49 to Houston, but TB went out in the first quarter and we still managed to put up 49 points without him.

TB's numbers on the year now are:
111/184 (60%), 1786 Yards, 13 TD, 8 Int
119 Att, 511 Yards, 4.2 AVG, 8 TD

I also am doing a great job spreading the ball around. I have receivers with

We handled #20 Illinois easily, they weren't as tough as their ranking indicated, and we entered The Game ranked #9 and ready to take on the #3 ranked 10-1 (7-0) Michigan Wolverines. The #1 and #2 ranked teams (Georgia Tech and Louisville) both had already lost on the day, so they were playing for a shot at a national title.

It was a back and forth game, and we trailed 17-7 in the 2nd quarter before Devin Smith had a nice catch and run to pull us within 3 at halftime. We owned the second half though... completely shut down any semblance of a running game and did a nice job establishing our own, as Daugherty ran 14 times for 80 yards and a TD in the second half alone. We were up 24-17 in the 4th when LB John Burnette got a pick 6 on a screen pass, and then we tacked on another TD for good measure to make the final a resounding 38-17, ending their 5 game winning streak in the series.

So, we move up to #5 in the polls (#3 in the BCS somehow) and sit at 11-1 (7-1) heading into the Big Ten title game. And just who do we face? #9, 10-2 (7-1) Michigan. Fuck you Jim Delaney.

Anyways though, this one was a shootout. I only attempted 9 passes (completing 5 of them, but they were at key times), and I pounded the ball on the ground all game long. It was a back and forth game, but we were able to take a 35-24 lead in the 4th quarter when they went on a big time drive and got the TD + the 2 pt conversion to make it 35-32. Our response? Daugherty takes the first play from scrimmage after that 75 yards to the house for a touchdown 42-32. They went down the field and eventually scored another TD with :36 seconds left, but we recovered their onside kick attempt and ran out the clock. 42-39 (Same score as 06 when we were 1-2).

My tailback had one of the most amazing performances I can remember in an NCAA game. Toted the rock 32 times for 331 yards and 4 TD, breaking Eddie George's school record for rushing yards in a single game (314). He had TD runs of 59, 65, and 75 yards on the day, truly incredible. And this was after he got bottled up and held to under 4 yards per carry a week before by the very same defense.

I got torched through the air though. Their QB Franklin went 27/36 (75%) for 452 yards and 4 TD/1 INT. I just had no answer... my pressure wasn't getting there and my DB's were struggling in coverage so eventually I just decided to set back in cover 4 and make them go down the field beating me underneath (Which they did for the final 15 points of the game).

As far as the bowl game goes, the team in front of me in the BCS rankings ended up being Georgia, who got hammered by LSU in a 1 v 2 showdown in the SEC title game 45-13, so thanks to a bunch of miraculous upsets I'm headed to the BCS National Championship Game to take on #1 ranked, 12-1 (8-1), defending national champion LSU. Wish me luck fellas. I'm going to need it.

I went 40 games without a loss, and now it's happened twice in a row. We couldn't stop the big plays from their passing attack, and on the other side Oklahoma's defense terrorized my young offensive line and quarterback. Justin Cooper was sacked 7 times and threw two interceptions, the last of which came on a 4th and 16 with 1:30 remaining to seal the deal.

The final score was 23-17, but the Sooners were actually up 23-3 at one point late in the 3rd quarter. The furious comeback fell short when my final drive resulted in a sack, a dropped pass, a sack, and an interception.

I am 1-2 on the year and sure to fall out of the top 15, but I still have a very good shot at winning the SEC. OU is clearly the best team we'll play all season, so it wouldn't shock me if we go undefeated in conference play.

The biggest thing we're missing right now is a big play threat on offense. Cronin has been plugging away with 4.4 ypc, but we haven't been able to find a replacement for home run hitting tailback Michael Moss or my stud receiver Vince Tillman. Whether he's already on the roster or I dig him up in recruiting, I need to find an explosive offensive weapon by the end of this season.

The NCG between the 12-1 (7-1) #2 ranked Buckeyes and 12-1 (8-1) #1 ranked LSU would be a true defensive battle, with both teams fighting and scraping in a tough fight to the finish. The only real semblance of offense would come from Buckeye tailback Daugherty, who ran 27 times for 174 yards and a TD, but quarterback Terrance Patterson would not be up to the task, going 7/16 for 94 yards and an interception.

Trailing 14-13 with just 1:32 to go in the game, the Buckeyes had the ball at their own 23 yard line with 1 timeout left. Somehow they converted a 4th and 14, and with :02 left in the game they had the ball at the LSU 36 yard line, and set up for the game winning FG. K Joe Joseph's career long was 48 yards, but the 53 yarder would decide the national title.

After a couple of LSU timeouts, he lined up. The snap was good, the hold was good and the kick was... short. 2 yards short. Ballgame. LSU wins 14-13 and is your national champions.

So I am in a predicament.

My freshman RB is a HOSS, so that isn't the current problem.

It's at QB. I know you are thinking "your QB is an AA sophmore". While that IS true, he threw 21 INT's last season becase of his accuracy. And now through 2 games (UTEP and FCS) He has thrown 4 because he just can't make certain throws he needs to.

Current QB's on my roster:
Joe Licata (QB in question):67 OVR, 77 THP, 75 THA.
JAmes Petty (freshman): 66 OVR, 82 THP, 76 THA
Todd Cannon (freshman): 62 OVR, 70THP, 90THA

Our next game is against #22 Arkansas and I don't know if it is a good idea to have a QB competition for that game lol.

Haha thanks man, I'm very much a run first coach so I'll always put up big numbers on the ground.

Jones was actually my starter for the first 1/2 of the season, but then he got hurt and missed the 2nd half of it and Daughtery really came on and blew up, and when Jones came back I went with the hot hand in Daughtery.
