(NEW) Aggie rumors of going to the SEC

I see this shaking out as follows...

A&M moves to the SEC. Seeing where the dominoes will fall, OU decides to follow suit. Legislation (and T. Boone) forces them to take Oklahoma State along for the ride. The SEC relents and accepts them. They sit at 15, simply because time is on their side.

The B10, knowing they have to keep up, go after (and get) Pitt. Remembering that Mizzou wanted in BADLY last year, they finally give them an invite. They sit at 14 and look to teams like Syracuse, Kansas, Iowa State, and Rutgers as possible members (Syracuse and KU for basketball, Iowa State for AAU Membership and Iowa rivalry, and Rutgers for AAU membership).

The Pac-12 has to follow suit and I see them being the most aggressive, moving to a full 16. They pull TCU from the Big East and then grab Texas Tech and Baylor (who will likely be a legislative package) to give them a decent share of Texas. For the last slot, they pull hard on getting BYU into the fray, but ultimately settle with Boise State.

honestly, i hate hate hate this move to bring the SEC to 14 teams.

i don't see the SEC adding clemson, tech, fsu, louisville, etc because i've read that UGA/SCAR/UF/UK have made an agreement to block any move to bring in an instate rival (take it for what its worth). also, neither of those 3 teams really bring much in the tv market field which is what drives the conference expansion. I expect the SEC to take someone in the ACC/Big East that is in a TV market like DC. Also, wouldn't be surprised to see us add Missouri to get the St. Louis market and then move a team over to the East.

If this is gonna happen, I just hope the 2 teams we get have great fanbases. That is one of the things that makes the SEC so great. Outside of a few teams (Vandy, etc), almost every team packs the stadium, tailgates like crazy, and lives football. I don't want that to change

No on all that. Missouri and DC are way too far away. The SEC is the one conference that can afford to not have to reach for a TV market. They have a tradition to uphold and that is their TV market. That sells itself. Adding a team that far away would stretch the conference thin, and those great fans you speak of would stop traveling as much.

If you add a team in Texas you pretty much have to add a team in the south atlantic region. I don't think the schools in the West are going to be too thrilled with adding Texas A&M and another member on top of that. It has to be a team in a preexisting East division state, one of those in-state rival schools is just going to have to :dealwithit:.

And that rival school is South Carolina, because they have only been in the league for 20 years and haven't contributed dick in any sport. They'd be told to shut up pretty quickly if they objected to Clemson joining, I'd imagine.

If not, Georgia Tech is an option. They were an original member and they are struggling in basketball right now. We could use their academics and they could use our weak basketball to build back some national profile. And while that wouldn't add a media market, it would double up on the biggest and most centralized market in the conference.

Houston.

To a lesser extent, San Antonio. Dallas is UT country all the way, but Houston is 90 minutes from College Station, 70 if i'm driving so STFU and hold on.

GT will never be an option. Academics will always be a sticking point, and now, with probation, they don't want to project a worse image than they already are to the NCAA.

Clemson & FSU are the two options that the SEC has in the ACC. Miami is a VERY distant third and the rest is all riff-raff.

From a competitive standpoint, I think FSU is the best bet. But Clemson is likely the easiest get and the best fit.

in a perfect world, yes i agree. I don't want to see the SEC lose its tradition and be stretched so far out. If we were gonna add someone, I'd prefer a Florida State or Clemson. But, what do they really bring to the table that will appeal to the presidents and ADs? I would love for it to be a (lets get the best team possible in the south that fits in the SEC style of traditions). Sadly, it will probably be a "how can we make the most money" move. That is too add a new TV market.

Also, if UF/UGA/SCAR/UK have agreed to block an instate rival, the SEC won't be able to add a FSU or Clemson anyway

There is only one option. Gotta keep it in the south. Nobody else gets it. The SEC adding a northern based school would be like the EPL adding an MLS team.

Why wouldn't you want Tech? It's not like anyone considers them a threat. Georgia fans certainly don't. And Miami would be too far away for my tastes. Those fucks didn't even show up to the Chick-fil-A bowl a few years ago. They would never go to any of the away games past Gainesville. Clemson would already have two natural rivals, so I think they're the best fit right now.

Again, that doesn't make sense considering the ACC reached into the Big East in the past for their bigger markets, and WVU was left out.

Edit- Also the ACC is slightly different considering they do actually care about academics.

VT and UVA actually black balled WVU in that whole ordeal... but having been to WVU games in states like Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, our fans travel, and they travel well... not to mention, the most watched Thursday night game in ESPN's history was a WVU game... :lesmug:

It's about resources and support. They're a program on the verge of getting to the top. Now they need to be able to stay there a while.

I think the PAC-12 is a much better option for them, competitively.

And they won't join the Big 12. The Big 12 is dead if A&M leaves.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought it was Syracuse that got screwed by the whole VT/UVA situation. I thought they invited Cuse, Miami, and BC, but UVA demanded VT, so Cuse was the odd man out

I'd take TCU in a heartbeat, and I think they could definitely hang with the big boys. Patterson is a DAMN good coach, and they are getting better athletes every year. He's gonna have that program successful as long as he's there.

The Dallas market would be huge, and it'd open up LSU's east Texas recruiting even more than kicking A&M's ass every year would be able to do. I'm liking that suggestion heels, it's a shame they jumped the gun and settled for the Least.

But they don't exactly fit in the Pac 12, same as UT didn't fit in the Pac 12.

UT and TCU fit much better in the Pac-12 than they do in the SEC. Especially UT.

UT's reasons for not joining the Pac-12 all came down to money and power. Not fit or regionalization.

It's actually pretty astounding how good TAMU is in every single sport. They are good at everything right now. They won mens & womens track & field like 3 years in a row, they won golf two years ago, mens hoops in the tournament every year, womens hoops won the title, baseball went to the CWS, and now football is turned around. It's crazy.

Maybe it's just me, but I see them as the old SWC teams. Arkansas is in the SEC, so why not throw those two in as well?

Because a lot has changed from the SWC days.

There's pretty much a mutual agreement between Texas and the SEC that it's never going to happen. Ever. Texas doesn't see it as a cultural fit, so they won't bother.

Academics are playing a much bigger role than a lot of people realize. Schools with high rankings aren't going to align themselves with other schools who don't have to play by their standards.
