and if the reports are true that is how the SEC doesn't look like they are making the Aggies come to the SEC. Reports are saying it's a 30-40% chance they vote against...so that still means 60-70% they will vote yes.[/qupte]
It's 30-40% at this moment in time. It's not about A&M taking less money, it's about the other schools in the SEC and whether or not they're willing to take a smaller piece of the TV deal to let A&M and [insert school here] in. This is, of course, if ESPN refuses to re-negotiate for a higher deal (which I think they will, considering their interests in the LHN).
I'm willing to bet schools like Vandy, Ole Miss, MSU, and UK wouldn't like the idea of taking less money just to allow more teams into their precious circle. Possibly South Carolina and Arkansas, as well. That's half your conference right there. If they all vote no, A&M doesn't get in.
Everyone knows the Aggies want out and the SEC doesn't need us to become great.
This says it all. The SEC is already "great", anyways.
The state legislature can't stop us from moving but we could possibly get less money....really depends on how much less and if A&M is willing to take less just to get away from Texas.
The Texas Lege is notorious for playing dirty in situations like these (see Big 12 formation, last year's debacle). Not only will A&M have to buy their way out the B12, but they could potentially suffer huge losses on the public funding side. A cutback on their public funds would be a huge deal. They already only take 1/3 of the Permanent University Fund anyways (Texas gets 2/3s).
Also, is A&M's athletic department still in the red? If so, how do they buy their way out? Boosters would be the only way, but it's going to be a nice chunk of change.
Texas would have to become Independent or lose their network (no conference is going to let them come in w/ a network).
Then Texas will go Independent. Big deal.
