I'm sorry but football isnt such an exclusive sport that only the guys who made the teams last year are the end all, be all of the sport. Guys get cut based on perception of another human or a bad day. Theres plenty of dumb asses who can run around,catch and throw just as good or better than the present crop. and you wouldnt be able to tell the difference since the rules are so wussy and safety oriented now anyway.

There's no way my brother and his NFL cut friends could keep up with Jeff Saturday or Michael Oher. They're the "best of the rest", aka college football players that didn't make it, and my brother fucking sucks.

The players that are in the league are physical specimens and worked hard and deserve to be in the league. There aren't as many Vince Papale's in this world as the movies make it seem.

the guys you mention are all Joe Schmos too. They just get to practice more in a system because they are on a team. Give that opportunity to the guys considered 2nd and 3rd stringers and there really isnt that much difference.

This is about ownership and an established league. Theres plenty of hungry guys ready to fight for spots and the league doesnt need Manning as much as a Manning needs the league. Sure, its a great story of a player to follow and helps promote the league. But the league will go on regardless. You can always find another great player better than the majority, that doesnt mean everyone who isnt that player is bad at what he does.

The not so good players make more money than most humans ever see, that doesnt have anything to with people being replaceable. poorly claim ? players are replaced every year. No there isn't because no good player would ever be a scab, because then they probably would never be allowed to be in the players union once the real players come back.

Let's say Cam Newton or Mark Ingram were to decide to be a replacement player ... his real NFL career is then tainted. (Plus they would never be in Madden which would probably be a huge disappointment for them.)

This is also the case for guys who are trying for roster spots every year, or guys who have been in the UFL like Daunte Culpepper or Dominic Rhodes. So you're basically looking at only the 4th or 5th tier of football players, the ones who never had a realistic hope to be in the league in the first place.

If you think they're easily replaceable, then why the fuck do they make more money than lawyers, doctors, presidents, etc.? You are failing to grasp simple supply and demand concepts here.

On a side note, Rhodes is getting screwed. My buddy was explaining to me that Rhodes was picked up by the Colts midway through and now has to sit out next season, even though he was just playing in the UFL at the beginning of the season. That's all according to my buddy, and he's a fucking retard, so IDK how accurate that is. Just a thought.

I don't really know what you're arguing, though. I definitely believe that all players, stars are bench players, need the league more than the league needs them. A good piece of evidence is a TO type. He's fucking amazing, but he's thug. He couldn't hold another job. He needs the NFL. If he can't play in that, he goes to the UFL or works at McDonalds (that's if he didn't already make millions). The league would still be able to go on without him, but if the league were to lose all it's stars, viewership would go down along with talent level.

Also another analysis of the story I heard on ESPN. The owners are guaranteed money during the season regardless, IDK if it's from merchandise sales, etc. Regardless, they're in no hurry to end talks because they'll receive this money no matter what. Why would somebody rush to split up their revenues and give money away when they'll be earning money for at least a season, and it's all for them. I'm not talking jerseys, obviously, but more like memorabilia. A Colts lamp or an Eagles blanket.

That money is from the TV deals they made in 2009. It's guarenteed through the 2011 season even if there is a work stoppage. I highly doubt though the owners want to rely on this money and from what I read they consider it more of a loan then payment. I'm not sure how they are supposed to pay back this "loan" but whatever.

As far as replacement players the NFL has already said no to it. This is all assuming the courts allow the NFL to go through with the player lockout.

With the union deceritfying as well there's going to be a lot of players sitting around because they can't play anywhere else. Their only option is to join the other 10 players or so and sue the NFL and let the courts play it out.
