Bengals | FB Hester makes Pro Bowl again

Bengals.com reports that Bengals FB Jacob Hester will play in the 2010 Pro Bowl in Miami. Hester, a third year pro, rushed for 541 yards and 6 touchdowns on the year. This will mark the second consecutive Pro Bowl for Hester.

Bengals | WR Ochocinco makes Pro Bowl

Bengals.com reports that Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco will play in the 2010 Pro Bowl in Miami. Ochocinco was the NFL's second leading receiver with 118 receptions for 1,453 yards and 10 touchdowns, all career-highs. Only Marques Colston (New Orleans) had better stats than Ochocinco, posting 119 receptions for 1,490 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Man, I cannot stand those Patriots. Sucks for the Cardinals to keep making it all the way only to lose. Tough way to end the season with the blowout loss to the Steelers. Jordan never really stood a chance against that secondary. Still the season was definitely a step in the right direction and I think with a solid offseason and maybe a better training staff you could make a playoff run. Any direction you're looking to in particular with the 8th overall pick? Good luck in the offseason, looking forward to it!

Garbage...That's all I can say. He showed in that game that he is not an NFL quarterback. He will not be the back-up in 2011, I guarantee it.

The direction I go with that pick will depend greatly on how free agency goes. I could use help almost anywhere so right now I am just thinking best player available.

I got a pretty good draft plan I think. We don't have a ton of money to work with in free agency so we'll have to be judicious with who we sign and then have a great draft.

ESPN's Adam Shefter reports that former Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt has been hired by the Houston Texans to serve as their third head coach in team history. Whisenhunt, who has led the Cardinals to three consecutive Super Bowls, had been looking for a deal to make him the highest paid head coach in the NFL and got it from the Texans.

Tough season finale. 7 interceptions would tie Ty Detmer's record set with Cleveland in '99 or '00 I believe. You had a rough stretch without Carson losing 5 straight. Interested to see what you can do with the #8 pick. I'm not so sure you are in the same position you were last year in the sense the you need to collect as many picks as possible. If anything, you may want to move up if their is a difference-maker waiting for you.

Not shocked to see Hester and Ochocinco in the pro bowl. They both definitely deserved it. If Ochocinco caught 118 passes, I can only imagine how many times you targeted him in the passing game. The rushing game was solid too. You had several guys banging out yards. The only real disappointment I could see would be CJ Spiller with his 2.2 ypc.

Anyway, looking forward to more from DGZ and the Bengals!

Editor's Note: With the off-season set to commence, I'd like to take this time to remind readers of the Official Franchise Off-Season Rules which can be found by visiting this link: Official Franchise Rule Book.

Here are the main highlights of the off-season player transaction activity rules:

Off-Season Player Transaction Rules

- Only three players' whose contracts have expired and/or are due an extension can be re-signed or extended prior to the free agency signing period per League Year*. Every player that is re-signed or extended must have a contract that pays them the average of the top 10 highest paid players at their respective position; Otherwise, one free agency day must be skipped at the beginning of the unrestricted free agent signing period for each one that does not get a top 10 contract.

- The franchise tag may be used on one of the three re-sign-able players in lieu of signing them to a long-term contract however the tag cannot be used twice on the same player.​

- The free agency signing period is the only time that the team can sign a player from another team that would represent an upgrade to the active roster at a specific position (based on overall rating). Once this signing period ends, in-season free agency rules begin with one caveat; Any Bengals' unrestricted free agent from the previous season can be signed any time team between the draft and the first preseason game. After the first preseason game, this caveat to the in-season free agency rules ceases.

- A maximum of two players can be cut between the end of the regular season all the way through the end of the free agent signing period (unless more is necessary in order to get under the salary cap or in the case of a player being replaced by a draft pick). This should eliminate the opportunity to unfairly upgrade the depth chart in a fashion that the CPU is not capable of doing. Every team has weaknesses and this should ensure the Bengals will always have some.

- Once the free agency signing period begins, only one offer can be made per free agency day. In addition to this, one free agency day must be skipped for every player that gets signed to the Bengals active roster, this includes Bengals' free agents.

- There are no rules regarding who can and cannot be signed. However a strong emphasis will be placed on keeping things as realistic as possible with the thought in mind that Cincinnati typically isn't a prime free agent destination in real life.

Trade Rules

- A maximum of two trades per League Year* is allowed. This includes trades involving only draft picks. Only one trade will be allowed in this franchise's first league year (which in relation to real life, is already in progress).

- If one or both allotted trades are not used in a given League Year, they may roll over to the following season however the rolled-over trade(s) can only be used in a trade involving only draft picks.​

- Trades involving only draft picks must at least conform with this NFL trade value chart: http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

- Any "draft pick only" trade that does not conform with the above chart must result in a trade favoring the CPU (based on said chart).

- There are no strict rules on trade terms involving players but like free agent signings, a strong emphasis will be placed on keeping things as realistic as possible.

I'm undecided on the QB situation. Undecided as in I am not sure if I will go the free agent route or through the draft. I am definitely sure that we'll be getting a new one though, that's for certain.

Yeah I knew it had to be close to some sort of record. That guy was missing wide open guys BADLY.

Spiller has progressed pretty well after year 1, hopefully his running production can increase. He may end up being the starter if he can get that YPC up. Running back will be an interesting competition to keep an eye on in the preseason. I don't want to play musical chairs at that position next season. One of those guys needs to step up.

I probably can't afford to add a top free agent running back nor do I plan to pick one early at the moment so one of Scott, Spiller, Harrison, and even Hester needs to step up and be the lead guy.

I actually may need to stock up on some mid to late round picks actually since it looks like we're going to be in a salary cap crunch.

Bengals | G Collins re-signed

ESPN's Adam Shefter reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed starting LG Anthony Collins (82 overall) to a 6-year $44.5 million contract which includes just over $13 million in bonus money. Collins was set to hit the free agent market on March 5 but the deal locks up the up-and-coming interior lineman long-term. "We came into this off-season looking to upgrade in several areas while also making sure to secure the building blocks we already have in place," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy. "You don't get better in this league by allowing your top players to leave via free agency and we felt it was imperative to get this contract done with Anthony. We feel he is one of the top guards in the game today and was a major reason why our offensive line yielded the fewest sacks in the league last year."

Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl WR Chad Ochocinco has agreed to a 5-year $48 million contract extension which includes $14 million in bonus money to remain with the team beyond the 2011 season. The deal, which according to sources has been in the works for several weeks dating back to the final weeks of the 2010 regular season, will allow for the Bengals suddenly rejuvenated wideout to end his career where it started.

"I had to have this player here," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"I heard so much about him in a negative light before arriving here in Cincinnati and those things heard couldn't have been more wrong. I love having him and he's one of the best receivers I have ever worked with."

Ochocinco, who was going into a contract year this season, caught 118 receptions for 1,453 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2010, all career-highs. At age 33, the Bengals are banking on the former Oregon State star continuing to get better with age.

"Chad is an integral part of our offense and despite what outsiders may say, we feel like he is an all around great guy," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy.

"This is something we needed to get done to keep him here in Cincinnati where he belongs and he will be a major part of coach Martz's offense moving forward."

According to sources with knowledge of the deal, the contract is somewhat back-loaded and the Bengals can opt out of the deal after three seasons with a minimal cap hit. With that said however, Ochocinco thinks he can be one of those rare players that can play well into their late 30's.

"I'm like a fine wine, baby. I feel myself getting better and the best has yet to come," said Ochocinco.

"This city and this football team has welcomed me with open arms throughout my career here and I just felt like this was right."

"We got better last year and skies the limit for this team. I couldn't leave my boy Carson (Palmer) here and I still think we have a shot to do something special together here in Cincy. We can be like Rice and Montana and build up a legacy. We still got time to do that."

In addition to locking up the All-Pro wideout long term, the deal frees up just over $2 million in cap space for the Bengals. Ochocinco was set to make just under $9 million in base salary next season but the contract will provide temporary relief for Cincinnati's tight cap situation.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that going into the 2011 free agent signing period the Cincinnati Bengals are approximately $13.92 million under the NFL salary cap, which is set for $154.44 million in 2010. The unrestricted free agency signing period begins on March 5. "We're close up against the cap but we have a specific plan in place to combat that which will be revealed over the coming days and weeks heading up until the draft," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy. The Bengals are not expected to make any big splashes in free agency and will likely be much less active than the 2010 off-season.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals were unable to reach a contract agreement with DT Pat Sims (81 overall) and he will become an unrestricted free agent tonight at midnight. "This was a tough one to swallow because Pat was a guy we really wanted to have back but quite frankly his salary expectations and the value we have placed on him are just not in line at this time," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy. "We're not shutting the door on Pat because we really like him but we have to be responsible financially."

O'Sullivan (51). The bolded players were starters in 2010.
