NFL Week 3 Random Thoughts

They have it routed to voicemail since it has been leaked publicly by Clay Matthews after the game last night. Calling the main line at 212-450-2000 will either ring busy or put you into a queue to speak with an operator.

I will not watch a single down of NFL football until the real officials return to the field.

Yes, but the ruling on the field was a catch by Seattle. The only thing that could be reviewed was whether or not the ball was caught/incomplete, not if Green Bay intercepted the ball. I'm not arguing Green Bay got screwed, BUT the way it was ruled on the field effected what was able to be reviewed.

This is true, the replay official was kind of screwed. But they also missed the blatant offensive pass interference just before the catch.

Before I get into bad calls, the Seahawks D played great in the first half. The team played well enough to be in a position to be helped by the refs, so my hats off to them. I'm impressed. Tate did what he was suppose to do and that was fight for the ball at the end.

Now on to the refs. Bad calls benefited both sides. But that end of the fourth, their were 3 that really determined the outcome of the game. Walden's roughing the QB was highly questionable and McMillian's int should have stood. Which would have put GB in position to score at least a field goal.

Then the PI on shields where Shields right hand was on the receivers jersey, and Shields did hold the receivers jersey a little. But the offensive PI on that play was blatant. The play should have either been an offensive PI or called on both and down over.

The last was the blatant PI in the end zone on the last play just before the receiver and defender fought for the ball. You can clearly see Jennings out leap Tate and pull the ball into his chest while Tate takes one hand complete off the ball. So I question the simultaneous possession with Jennings holding the ball in his chest as Tate was behind Jenning's with his arms wrapped around Jenning's to have his hands on the ball.

It is what it is, and you just move forward. It's a shame that the refs effected the outcome of the game, and it's also a shame that the victory, in the eyes of most fans, will take away from the incredible effort by the Seahawks. Their D played VERY well in the first half. And no matter how the game would have ended, the way the Seahawks played, the team and Seahawk fans should feel really good about their team.

Refs make mistakes. Teams should play better so that they are not in a position to have the refs influence the game with any bad calls. GB should have played better, and the Seahawks D is a reason why GB didn't play better.

You can look at any half-ending or game-ending Hail Mary and see contact like that. They always let the guys fight it out on those plays.

Fighting it out is different than pushing the guy to the ground. It should have been called, but life goes on.

Can the NFL come in today and overturn last nights TD call?

I seriously doubt they can do that but what they can do is to adopt the NHL model effective immediately that says all scores are ultimately reviewed at the league office and subject to change until they sign off on it as being a score.

Felt real real dirty about the win going to bed last night.

Now I'm just happy the Seahawks are 2-1 and have a great defense. Ready for the Rams next week.

Seahawks have nothing to apologize for. They didn't make any of those calls. Some benefited GB. I think they benefited Seattle more, but Seattle didn't make the calls. Your D in the first half was absolutely great. I'm proud of GB in the way they came back in the second half. A passing first team that I thought was finesse actually went toe to toe with your good D and ran the ball. Rodgers made clutch 3rd down throws against a strong D in that second half. So even though GB had success against the D in the second half, your D was still tough to play against.

You guys won the game. Congrats. Seattle played a good game to put them selves in a position to have calls benefit them at the end. I really think that no matter how the calls went at the end, Seattle gave a very good showing and they should/would feel good about themselves however the game ended.

Evan as a Packer fan, I say they shouldn't. That would set a bad precedent as far as I'm concerned. Refs are human, they make mistakes. Can't take the win away from Seattle.

You should be excited about the D. You have a good running game, though I think GB's D did well against it, and Wilson will get better as the year goes on. Sure he's a Rookie and it will take time, but he just looks like he doesn't get rattled, even under pressure. He might not know all the reads yet, but the guy seems to stay calm and not make critical mistakes/turnovers. He showed the same things while at Wisconsin, and now he's showing those traits in the NFL. I really think he has potential. You might have to be patient, but I really think he has potential.

Congrats to the Seahawks fans though, I love that defense. I think once your team has its true field general in place you'll really have something.

Apparently Jamaal Charles became just the second player in league history to have at least 225 yards rushing and 50 receiving yards in the same game. The other player to do it was Jim Brown.

That would open a huge can of worms IMO. That sets the precedent that the NFL can overturn any call on a whim. I don't even think they would do that if this was Week 17 and it directly decided the playoff fate for the Packers. It would set a precedent that they can't go back from.

Coming into the season I thought Kam Chancellor was a scrub. I remember Mike Mayock talking about him when he was drafted as a poor mans Taylor Mays. He was all over the place making some really nice open field tackles vs the Packers. And the PI call on him was bullshit. Kam Chancellor is a fuckin' boss.

Chancellor was always a solid prospect at VT. Great in the box, so-so in coverage. He's gotten better in coverage. The poor man's Taylor Mays reflects more on how Mays was viewed as a prospect at one time, I think. Chancellor was a 4th or 5th rounder IIRC, so he was a cheaper pick. I think that's what Mayock was going for.

I told my roommate it felt like we were witnessing apart of history. It felt like the twin towers got hit again. I just kinda sat there in disbelief and kept watching it happen over and over and over again.
