If you actually think there is no drop off between an NFL referee who has been officiating the highest level of football and some guy who has been officiating at the college level then you are an idiot.

There is no possible way you can tell me that these guys are as good as experienced NFL officials. No way Jose.

It'd be like saying you can take a high school ref and throw him into a college game and he would do just as well as the other college officials. Get real dudes.

And I guess the rule against blindside
blocks doesn't apply to special teams then? If it doesn't then it shouldn't apply during other plays as well.

I can't remember where I heard it from, but someone likened it to taking a team of sixth round draft picks and telling them to suit up against any of the NFL teams. They would go out and play, but it wouldn't be pretty.

The officials have a lot of leverage, and from how incensed some of the coaches are, I can bet many owners will be putting pressure on Goodell to get the regular refs back ASAP.

The crown of his helmet is in Lee's sternum. The facemask is below that, which would be considered closer to his stomach than his helmet.

The back of Tate's helmet is hitting Lee's chin. That is not a helmet to helmet hit.

If a QB gets hit above the shoulders by any part of a helmet, that's 15 yards, no question. But obviously we aren't dealing with a QB.

That helmet is hitting Lee's face under the facemask. Plus, he appears to be being speared. It looks like an illegal hit to me, but the rules when it comes to things like this have changed so many times and are so complicated that I don't know what an illegal hit is anymore. I just trust that the refs are correct when they toss those flags, I don't even bother wondering if they are correct.

I didn't call it dirty, I said it looked illegal.

I can't imagine, with today's rules, that helmet-to-chin contact, or the crown of the helmet directly into the chest of an opponent, is within the rules. But the rules are so interpretative now, with 'defenseless players' and everything else, that it's hard to tell anymore.

I honestly don't know if the helmet touching the chin is a penalty on a play like this. Plus, you get into interpretive areas like 'launching' and 'defenseless player'. It's too complicated now. Remember when a block was just a block? Too many rules make the game too hard to officiate.

I would tend to agree. 2-0 is 2-0 but there are a lot of red flags, mainly the inability to run the ball and the inability to capitalize off turnovers. If you don't convert takeaways into touchdowns, they are worthless. Settling for field goals will get you beat in the playoffs in this current offensive landscape.

The Falcons look pretty damn good to me. Do they really need to run the ball? That's a team that's as equipped as any to abandon the run, spread you out, and let Matt Ryan go to work.

The defense is fast, athletic, and physical.

Good coaching, good special teams. That's a team that looks to be in the hunt in the NFC for years to come.

Very true, but lets not praise them 100%. Making that many turnovers early and not scoring as many points is a cause for concern. A team with that much weaponry on offense should have a killer-instinct mentality, to put up points early and not let up.

Matt Ryan also needs to have success in the playoffs.

I like the Falcons too but they need a run game. Spreading it out and all that is fine and dandy but they are going to need it soon to keep a defense honest...and right now Turner is too slow and plodding, Rodgers isn't an every down runner...Snelling i'm not a believer.
