The three strongest aspects of the Freeman top 100 "argument" are 1) Freeman's potential, 2) Freeman's position, and 3) Freeman's supporting cast. Amazingly, none of these three things actually deal with Freeman's current on-field performance. REPEAT: none of these three things actually deal with Freeman's current on-field performance.

He had the 6th best QB rating in the league. How is that not on-field performance? REPEAT: how is that not on-field performance?

Its funny, because I can easily replace 'Cassel' with 'Freeman' in your final statement to sum up my feelings on Freeman. I looked up his numbers Week 14 or 15 and was shocked.

I don't think anybody is saying the guy is a pile of shit. But he's a young player, protected by a conservative gameplan, who has one decent season and one HORRENDOUS season under his belt. Forgive us if we would like more of a resume before we fall over ourselves gushing over him. I never came away particulary impressed with the "eye test" when watching him.

The playoffs argument sucks because you can say "Matt Cassel led his team to the playoffs". No, he didn't. It's a team accomplishment. Knocking Freeman because he couldn't lead a super young team to the playoffs in only his second year doesn't make any sense.

It's not just his one good season. He also has outstanding physical talent. He's also football intelligent and came into the NFL ready to run an NFL offense. So, he has the physical makeup. He has the mental makeup. What else does he need? It's hard to argue that his season was an abberation when 1st round attributes meet production.

I have been more impressed with Freeman than with Cassel when it comes to the "eye test", but maybe thats because I've seen Cassel more often. I saw Freeman look extremely ordinary against Pittsburgh early in the year and get outplayed by Charlie Batch. Its interesting if you look at Freeman's numbers...when he'd play a good defense and throw 35-40 passes, he'd only end up with like 180-200 yards. But when he'd play a bad team he'd throw 20-25 passes, but he'd end up with 250 yards.

Cassel would be a career backup right now if Brady hadn't gotten injured. Freeman has already shown he can produce at a high level in his young career. Freeman is more talented ACROSS THE BOARD than Cassel at everything required to play the QB position.

I would trade Cassel and whatever I needed to get Freeman in a Chiefs jersey.

Huh? I saw plenty of Freeman last year. Probably 6 or 7 full games, and decent parts of most of the others. This is 2011, DirecTV replays every f'n game in its entirety for three days.

Just meant that he came from a pro offense in college, which made him more ready than others to run an NFL offense. He struggled like most rookies do, but obviously made huge strides in his second year, and will only get better.

Oh, and I keep forgetting to say this.

Watching that highlight film of Freeman, the player I came away most impressed with, and who is clearly underrated and far more worthy of this top 100 talk, is Mike Williams. He's much better than I thought, and really saved Freemans ass a lot more than I thought he did last year. Gets good seperation at the line, and wins nearly every jump ball.
