But PSN and XBL are cloud networks and your console is a dumb terminal that connects to it. If they upgrade the server side, you should expect the client side to replicate that new capability.

Trust me that I know from my job that the devil is in the details and I am sure there are valid reasons why it isn't working right yet but they should have just delayed the launches until the spring. I have delayed product launches for up to a year when something was just 75% baked. Sony and MS were both petrified that the other was going to get an insurmountable head start in the next gen war.

I hear you, but this isn't a problem on the PS4, Vita or the app, just the PS3.

It's not really as simple as that. I understand why the PS3 has to stay at 100 because that was how the infrastructure was built. What I don't understand is how it determines who stays and who doesn't. And if you can protect people, how do you do it?

Which 100 players are displayed?

1. If you have sent or received Friend requests that haven't been approved yet, up to 10 of the most recent recipients and 10 of the most recent senders are displayed.
2. Your Friends are displayed:

• If the sum of players from point (1) and your currently online Friends is more than 100, your currently online Friends are displayed by online ID in alphabetical order until the limit of 100 players is reached.
• If the sum of players from point (1) and your currently online Friends is less than 100, your currently offline Friends are also displayed by online ID in alphabetical order until the limit of 100 players is reached.

3. If the sum of players from point (1) and all of your Friends from point (2) is less than 100, any remaining recipients of your Friend requests are displayed, followed by any remaining players who sent Friend requests to you, until the limit of 100 players is reached.

You must sign out of PSN℠ and then sign in again to update the players who are displayed. When doing this, also sign out of all other devices that you are signed in to PSN℠ on.

It doesn't say anything about protecting friends. So, that's either a rumor or something that Sony has in store for a future firmware update as far as I can tell.

agreed...it has kept me from getting AC4 on the PC. I am awaiting for the news story saying Ubisoft is ending it...please!!

If you have less than 100 friends online and he's one of them, he should show up. Otherwise, he has to be one of the first 100 listed in alphabetical order to be listed.

Unfortunately, you might just have to use your PS4 or the PlayStation app to see when he gets online, sign out of PSN, and sign back in so he'll show up on your friends list.

Or the app. Ok, so of I just restart he'll show up? I think the other night I was on before he was. But I definitely didn't have 100+ people on. 60 tops.

Yup. You just have to sign out of PSN (you don't have to restart your PS3, my mistake), and it should update your friends list when you sign back in.

I haven't done that yet, but am tempted to do it with Need For Speed. That said, in Canada, we deal with Internet bandwidth caps so I don't want to download a game I could buy.

That's a hell of a group of games for PS+. Also, Best Buy is selling one year PS+ cards for $35. I don't know how long it'll last.
