With rule changes your right, records will be broken. It can be argued that without the generous rule changes benefiting the WR that Marino's TD record would've never been broken. Regardless, Marino played at such a high level for years with no help. Aikman had play makers around him. Same can be said for Elway. Marino will always be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Anyway, no reason why names like Aikeman, Elway, Marino should be brought up in a Jamarcus Russel thread.

You guys are missing the point. The point is that even the majority of the greatest Quarterbacks of all time had trouble in their first couple of seasons in the league. Nobody knew those guys were going to be the greatest QBs of all time at that point and many were considered to be on the path to becoming busts. Nobody is saying JR is going to be a great QB or even a good QB, all we're saying is you can't judge a QB based on 16 total starts.

Russell wasnt that bad last year considering how terrible his offense was, especially the receivers. He only threw 8 INTs which isnt that bad. 13 TDs, which aint great.. but the ratio isnt terrible for a young QB in a terrible offense. I dont think its fair to say he cant develop into a decent QB when hes only going to be going into his 3rd season. I think he'll be alright.

What's your reasoning behind this? His accuracy issues or do you think he isn't capable of running a pro-style offense?

His physical talent is unquestionable and he improved drastically in each of his seasons at LSU.

The only thing anybody can knock about him right now is his work ethic and lack of leadership skills. Everyone attributes that to him being lazy or having a very mellow approach. He really has to improve in that aspect or he'll never be great, that's for sure.

I don't think he is going to be great, but I don't think he's going to be the worst QB of all time as some of you are acting like.

I don't like making excuses for Russell but you can't ignore the fact that he came out after his junior season and missed all of training camp going into his rookie season and had a coaching change 3 games into his second season.

He's young, inexperienced, and plays for one of the worst teams in football but still managed to take care of the football. Don't forget that the Raiders started 2 rookies at WR last season and a 2nd year tight end while playing with one of the worst pass-blocking OLines in the league.

How anyone thinks he is going to get worse is beyond me. He can't get any worse. The longer he is in the same system with the same coaches and playing with the same players he will only get better. The Raiders need to improve on the OL and keep him in the same system so he can learn it, develop, and gain some confidence.

The OLine has to block long enough for a QB to take 5 and 7 step drops to allow deep routes to develop.

2 rookie WRs who can't beat press or get any separation + the worst passing blocking tackles in the league = no time to throw deep routes.

And I'd bet good money that most quarterbacks' completion percentage significantly decreases as the passes get deeper for obvious reasons.

Even a fucking baboon could understand this. You guys have no concept of analyzing players or breaking them down with any logic, it's just "he can't throw deep passes because he fucking sucks!!"
