Ok i heard about this issue late last nite but didnt think much of it...this morning though i saw PS3 was a trending topic and saw people saying how owners of the older PS3 models (the fat ones) shouldnt even turn the system on! I dont know what to believe right now

I am one of those owners and I dont think i'll touch my PS3 until i find out whats up. Sucks cause MLB 10 comes out tomorrow.

Ok, so some people think this problem will fix itself at midnight (March 2nd). Some people say that a firmware update can not fix this problem as they think the problem is with the internal clock being out of sync. If this problem does not fix itself or if a firmware can not fix it, are we just SOL?

I assume that my Gamestop warranty was only 2 or 3 years. Wish I could find my fucking receipt...

so last night around 7:30pm I had a game of Madden online, no problems.

turned off the PS3, got back on around 10:30.

logged into PSN, played some Dragon Age for a couple hours and went to bed, no problems.

that doesn't fix it.....apparently it is the OS clock that is effed up. Different then the clock we can manually set.

UPDATE: It seems the issue has something to do with a hardware date reset to 12/31/99 (per my own "fat" retail and debug units) that occurred with the February 28 to March 1 turnover, even though this wasn't a leap year. I say 'hardware', because it reportedly occurs whether you've gone online with your PS3 or not.

It's not the first time the error's occurred. Run a date-filtered Google search on error code '8001050F' and you'll see it popping up time and again. Sounds like we'll either need a 24 hour cycle or a firmware update to see this fixed (and no, manually setting the correct time and date doesn't fix the issue).

UPDATE 2: Wondering whether Sony could remotely patch an issue that prevents connecting to the PlayStation Network? I assume the firmware update process works discretely, since clicking 'System Update' generates a standard "There is no need to update" message and not an error.

UPDATE 3: According to The Examiner, Sony tech support says both trophy and savegame data should be fine, and that a fix should be up 'by morning' (US time zones).

btw, people at OS with the 40, and 80 gig fat systems have confirmed that they are still able to play the show offline
