*NOTE* - I saved the game originally at the middle of the 2nd quarter, then again at half time since i didnt' feel like playing more (or so i thought) when i came back to play it the save file that loaded was the mid-2nd quarter, not the half time one, so i lost a couple int's (nortan / rutland) Due to the lack of scoring I didn't take many pics, so therefore I'm including the pics that didn't really count in the games stats (the ones w/ no text are those)

Oh yeah definitely, especially doing it on a console, that makes the editing and stuff a lot more tedious. With this PC version at least I have 3rd-party editors, easy ways to take screenshots, and a mouse for easier interface to navigate through.

Chargers Creaming Competition!

AP: Whether it's garning a victory over the soaring New York Jets, or taking down the defending AFC champion Broncos, one thing is for sure, the Chargers are on the map early in the season. The main ingredient for their recent wave of success? Well that would be upstart quarterback, Mark Vlasic. Yes that's right, I said Mark Vlasic. Vlasic has overtaken the starting job for Billy Joe Tolliver after Tolliver continued his hinted at holdout, during the off-season. In the meantime, 27 year old backup Mark Vlasic has certainly had a chance to shine. His most memorable moment in his short lived career was in week 2 when the San Diego Chargers took down the New York Jets. Vlasic went for 27 of 37 attempts, for a total of 241 yards, and an amazing 5 touchdown performance. Vlasic was confronted by reporters after that game:

"I just went out there and played my best today. It's not very often that I'm given this type of opportunity, and I'm going to just give my best shot at every turn because of how much I want this job. However it is very clear to me that I am merely stepping in here, and the job is still officially Bill's if he wishes to retain it. That however is up to him. However as long as i'm being put out there on that field i'm going to do what's best for San Diego, and that's win."

So far the undefeated Chargers (3-0, 1 bye "*whisper* vs. Texans) have been quite happy with their performance. Vlasic has 422 yards and 7 touchdowns on the season so far with a solid 65 percent completion rate. His quarterback rating is through to 101.4 if he can keep the current pace up there's no telling how far San Diego may surprise. However the entire load can not be deemed on just Vlasic's play. Young runningback Marion Butts has 244 yards and 4 touchdowns (2 rushing, 2 recieving) and is averaging 4 yards a carry, which is greatly helping the Chargers passing game by opening it up with a solid ground game. The Chargers defense is off to a great start with Leslie O'Neal already racking in 25 tackles and a sack so far this year. The only disappointment on the team has been kicker Fuad Reveiz who has gone for a horrible 1 of 7 on field goals so far this season. The Chargers are already having their red flags come up here as they are reportedly on the phones with a few teams and free agents about potentially aquiring another kicker. However it's too early to finalize any news about that. In the meantime there not worried because luckly for the Chargers it has not had any game-winning effects as they have come out on top in all their contests thus far. The Chargers could be a big surprise in the AFC this season, a team that nobody had in their radar at the start, however it is only the third week of the season, so super bowl tickets aren't exactly flying off the shelves, but things are definately, if anything, at least looking bright in San Diego's future.

Kosar and Walker Putting Teams in Turmoil!

AP - Cleveland Browns quarterback, Bernie Kosar, and Minnesota Vikings runningback, Herschel Walker are causing havok to teams this season...but most certainly not in the way that was expected. In fact, the turmoil they are causing, is to their own teams, as there playoff hopes are just about smudged out of reality. With Bernie Kosar suffering a foot stress fracture injury early in Week 4's game against the Washington Redskins things didn't look good. The remainder of that game emphasized just how important Kosar's loss will be for the Browns as they were destroyed 30 to 10. 30 year old Mike Pagel (68 ovr) will be the replacement quarterback for the Browns during these rough upcoming 8-10 weeks that Kosar is expected to be out. The Browns were off to another solid start with a 2-1 record going into this week. However things are definitely not looking up for the future. On the other side of the conferences we find the Minnesota Vikings not only upset over the loss of their star runningback Herschel Walker, but also feeling cheated out. After trading everything and the sink to get a runningback of the caliber of Walker, it is truly a shame to see him go down with a season ending hip fracture injury that was aquired in practice. What was originally thought to have not been a serious injury was revealed to be much worse then speculated by the team doctors. The required surgeries for Walker will undoubtedly knock him out for the regular and playoff seasons this year. So two juggernaut upcoming teams this year have their dreams of playoff births dashed into pieces at the loss of their big-name stars to injury. It is a rather unfortunate turn of events, but an element of the game of football that makes it so damned unpredictable.

Michael Irvin Escapes Courts on a Charge of Possession of Cocaine!
AP - Dallas Cowboys young wide reciever, Michael Irvin, isn't starting his career off with the right influences it would seem. Michael Irvin was stopped during a routine late-night breathalizer blockade by the Denton County Police. However much to the Police initial surprise things weren't quite what he expected after pulling Irvin over in his new BMW.

"At first I didn't expect anything, but being a huge Cowboys fan when he rolled down the window, I knew I recognized him. At first I felt star struck, but then I got a closer look at his eyes. I felt a little let down but asked him to get out of the vehicle. Upon inspection of his veicle we found a large bag of marijuana, as well as at least 4 grams of cocaine."

Michael Irvin immediately posted his $2,500 bail and seemingly got off scott free. The grand jury is expected to convene on the matter in the coming months. There is the obvious potential that if convicted with a felony cocaine possession Irvin could find himself facing as much as two years in jail along with a $10k fine. Will this Cowboys career be done before it has even started? It's a shame to see so much talent wasted on stupidity, hopefully this is the smack in the face wake up call that Irvin needs.

Guitar Hero Passes Away
AP - Blues guitarist and proclaimed legend, Stevie Ray Vaughn died on the 27th of August due to an unfortunate incident. The NFL was trying to collaborate with Stevie Ray Vaughn, and fellow guitarist friend Eric Clapton about performing at this years Super Bowl half time show. However in a tragic turn of events Stevie Ray Vaughn was killed in a helicopter crash near East Troy, Wisconsin, along with two other road crew members.

Vaughn had just completed his concert at the Alpine Valley Music Theater, a 37,000 capacity amphitheater in East Troy. He was accompanied by fellow guitarists Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton. However after the concert, to continue to the next venue, Clapton decided to give up his seat to Stevie Ray Vaughan.

It is unfortunate to see such a great musician die at a relatively young age in such a disastrous manner. The NFL has immediately sent their condolences to the family of Stevie Ray Vaughn, as well as Eric Clapton and other members that were being dealt with.

While not taking away from the events, this brings up a question as to who will actually be performing at the Super Bowl half time show this year. Without Vaughn it is doubtful that even Clapton will be capable of performing. The NFL is currently scouring today's hot musicians to try and bring spice to the halftime show and give the fans an enjoyable experience. When asked about why the NFL is tending towards so much non-football events at half time by reporters, new commissioner Paul Tagliabue had the following to say.

"The NFL is a business. While it certainly is a fun and great business to be a part of, it's still a business after all. And what do businesses want? Well they want to attract more customers, and that's exactly what we're doing. Not only attracting, but satisfying those that we currently have.
We want the Super Bowl to become more than just a haven for football fanatics. We want it to become a family experience! We want it to become an event that everyone would be ecstatic to go see, not just die hard football fans. This is just a small step in that direction."

Tagliabue has not been reached yet to comment on the events that have unfolded in regards to Vaughan. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come as the NFL starts its Super Bowl popularity push off on the wrong foot.

Gumbel: So Terry, we're already half way through the 1990 NFL season and things are starting to shape up. Teams are resting into the spots that they'll most likely continue through for the rest of the season, who do you see coming out on top so far?

Bradshaw: Well I tell you what, I've already got my surprise MVP award canditate right in my pocket.

Gumbel: Yes we know you'll be having your early-bird award selections coming later in the program, but as far as teams go, which team are you most excited about right now?

Bradshaw: Well, of course i'm going to throw my Steelers in there. They're 6-2 right now and boy are they looking pretty sitting at the top of the AFC Central along with the 6-2 Houston Oilers. With the Cleveland Browns at 5-4 and loosing Bernie Kosar for some time, it looks like they'll dogfight the Oilers for the top spot.

Gumbel: That was an expected selection, but besides them there are a lot of dominating teams in the AFC at the moment, namly Buffalo and San Diego.

Bradshaw: Buffalo is looking great, Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas are blazing through defenses. I love the way Kelly throws the football, and I fully expect to see them take it far this year. But there defense has slid under the radar, the Bills defense actually has the least amount of points allowed this year with 103, that's amazing. However I think the Oilers could get a shot at overtaking Buffalo at this point.

Gumbel: Certainly, they're run and shoot offense seems to be befuddling defenses around the league as they've managed to put up a leage leading 254 points on offense.

Bradshaw: Which is only one point greater then my boys in Pittsburgh I may add.

Gumbel: Now in the NFC there is one division in particular that is lagging behind without a true division champ. The Buccaneers, amazingly, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are actually one spot away from the top of their division with a 4 and 5 record, how do you think they've achieved this?

Bradshaw: Vinny Testeverde. He's been playing exceptionally well, and they've surprised a few teams out there. Plus it helps that the Vikings and Bears are struggling big time, Namely Chicago, who it seems Jim Harbaugh can't keep in line at their surprising 3-6 record, and they're unexpectedly mediocre defensive output so far this year.

Gumbel: Of course the returning champion 49ers are looking good as usual.

Bradshaw: They're going to be a hard team to beat, but it's happened already this season, so you never know, with the emergence of Detroit there, they could surprise a few.

Gumbel: Now let's get to your award selections. Obviously these are based on their performances so far this season, but who do you see taking home the awards this year?

Gumbel: So you've got Warren Moon as the league MVP, im sure the viewers at home, while many may agree, would like you to embelish that a little.

Bradshaw: Well this 33 year old quarterback is looking like he's 23 years old out there the way he's playing. If he keeps this up he could be playing until he's over his 40's! *Bradshaw laughs* But seriously, so far this year he's thrown for 2,359 yards and 17 touchdowns, well 18 if you include his TD run, due to this run and shoot offense. He's spreading the ball around between Jeffries, Hill, Givins, and Duncan, and he's doing a darn good job of it. And more importantly he's impacting the team by giving them they're victories. Granted in week 7 they had a surprising loss to the Vikings 24 to 12, but they've quickly made up for that with a victory of the Bengals.

Gumbel: They're certainly tearing it up on offense aren't they?

Bradshaw: Why yes they are, in fact their 12 points against Minnesota is the only game this year that they've scored less than 21 in, that's sayin' something!

Gumbel: Now you've got the Gator runningback, Emmitt Smith, vying for the offensive rookie of the year award I see, but they're not doing all that great at 3-6 this year.

Bradshaw: I tell you something, they'd be 0-9 so far this season if it wasn't for the running of Emmitt Smith, I think the Cowboys have something special here, he's definately going to be a force to reckon with. He's already racked up a solid 822 yards on the year. He's helping a struggling Troy Aikman offense grind through some tough games. Granted, the entire offense is underachieving as they've only scored 14 touchdowns offensively so far, and he's only managed to nab 2 on the ground. But that's due to the overall team struggle. I think a solid second half, will solidify Smith at this spot.

Gumbel: I'm liking the rest of your list here, but for wide reciever you have Brian Blades, I agree with this, but many of the folks at home may not. Seattle isn't exactly a big market team and they may not know the magic that this kids working along with Dave Kreig.

Bradshaw: First of all Kreig's 92.1 quarterback rating with 19 touchdowns, top. notch. A close candidate for the MVP in my decisions, but I had to give it to Moon. But Blades, boy oh boy is he heating the paydirt up this year by scorching defensivebacks to the endzone. You mentioned those 19 touchdowns, well you're looking at more than 50% of them in number 89, Brian Blades. He's grabbed a solid 47 catches for 706 yards, but if that wasn't enough, 10 of those 47 catches were for big time touchdowns.
