Left: Introducing the 14-4 Houston Oilers in there first ever super bowl appearance in Super Bowl XXV!
Right: The game definately started off the way Warren Moon didn't want it to. Shades of last week's horrible performance start to loom here as Ben Smith manages to intercept this Warren Moon pass on the Oilers opening drive of the night.
Left: Roger RUzek pounds this kick, but put too much stank on it as it easily gets the 41 yard distance, but is wide right.
Right: Backup runningback, Lorenzo White, actually took the first successfull pass catch of the night for the Oilers on this 15 yard route.
Left: However this drive would have a similar appearnce to the previous as Warren Moon tossed up another interception on this bomb attempt. The ball was picked off by Eric Allen and returned 89 yards! He was barely caught from behind at the Oilers own 9 yard line to end the opening quarter of the super bowl without a score on the board.
Right: However that quickly changed as on the next few plays Anthony Toney managed to puncture into the endzone with this 1 yard touchdown run to put the Eagles ahead 7 to nothing.
Left: Mike Rozier does his best impression of "I Can Do Anything You Can Do Better!" on the next Oilers drive. Here he managed to find a huge hole in the defense and blast up the middle for a 65 yard touchdown run. The suprising carry would tie the game up at 7 a piece with 9:34 left in the first half.
Right: In a game with two of the best quarterbacks in the game a surprising amount of running had been developed. Here Anthony Toney manages to break through a weak Richard Johnson tackle attempt, and then outpaces the following defender. Toney's 39 yard touchdown scamper would put the Eagles back on top, 14 to 7.
Left: Teddy Garcia uses his reliable leg as he has all season long for Houston on their next drive. This 39 yard field goal would make it 14 to 10, Philly at the half.
Right: Despite a valiant goal line stand attempt by Houston, Randall Cunningham managed to sneak this play into the endzone on 3rd and inches at the goal. Sean Jones came in with a well placed hit that would've appeared to stop Cunningham. But Cunningham managed to reach over Jones head with the football and have it cross the plane for the score. The Eagles would take a commanding 21 to 10 lead in the 3rd.
Left: Haywood Jeffries manages to make this wide open catch in the corner of the endzone, finally ending Warren Moon's touchdown slump. The play couldn't have come at a better time for Moon, as it would end essentially end the 3rd quarter (1:05 remaining) on a good note for the Oilers as they pulled within a manageable 21 to 17 trail.
Right: It wasn't until the final 24 seconds of the game that Warren Moon managed to his his favorite receiver once more. This 14 yard touchdown pass to Haywood Jeffries uplifted the Oilers spirits as it would appear they had just sealed victory in their first ever Super Bowl apperance.
Left: Yet the Oilers didn't expect the unexpected as Randall Cunningham went to work with a mere 24 seconds remaining on the clock. Cunningham tossed a couple quick passes for 15-20 yard gains and took two timeouts leaving just enough time for one more play.
Right: In the final play of Super Bowl XXV you could witness the cheerfull glee of Oilers players celebrating on the sidelines with 4 seconds remaining and a 24 to 21 lead. Warren Moon was seen hugging Jack Pardee as their coach was doused with Gatorade. The Oilers had come from behind late in the game and put in a touchdown to put them over to be Super Bowl XXV champions....but wait... those measly 4 seconds would be the bane of Houston's exsistence as Randall Cunningham managed to lob a 41 yard bomb to rookie receiver, Fred Barnett. Barnett would make the catch in the endzone for the game winning touchdown! 28 to 24 Philadelphia.
Left: A surprised Buddy Ryan got doused with water soon after as Cunningham and Smith snuck up behind him.
Right: Buddy Ryan and his Philadelphia Eagles celebrate, holding up the Super Bowl trophy. Many of them can hardly believe the picture perfect ending that they were gifted with tonight. A solid fight from Houston made it one of the most memorable Super Bowls in NFL history, and with it's spectacular ending, maybe even the best. But that is something only history can permit. And we're here, re-writting it every step of the way.
