Indiana Lands 3 Recruits in Last Week of Recruiting
Bloomington, IN - In the last week of recruiting, coach Anthony Thompson received verbal commitments from the following three recruits: Malcolm Howard, Jose Griffin, and Cory Williams.
Malcolm Howard, a free safety from Akron, Ohio, is the 3rd Free Safety that has committed to the Indiana football team. "I feel that I can get a lot of playing time [at Indiana]," he said yesterday. "Since Indiana's top free safety is leaving next year, I feel that I can compete for the starting job right away."
Howard is a safety who's primary strength is dropping back into coverage. With 8 interceptions his senior high school, he led his conference in interceptions. He's not a great tackler, but makes up for it with his amazing play recognition skills. "I can tell a play as soon as I see it," he said. "I guess it's just one of my best traits as a football player."
Jose Griffin, a three star tight end from Martinsville, Indiana, has a balanced set of skills. He can catch, block, throw, run, and play defense. In fact, he played 4 positions in high school: Quarterback, Tight End, Safety, and Kicker. "I was one of the best athletes in my school, and I think that is the reason that I can play football in college," he said. "Since I can play so many different positions, it helps me attract scouts because it shows that I am very athletic. If I hadn't played that many roles for my team in high school team, I wouldn't be here today."
The third recruit, Cory Williams, wasn't actually being recruited my Indiana. In fact, almost no one was looking at the 2 star defensive end from Bloomington, Indiana. "Schools like Florida and Alabama called me, but I received no scholarship offers," he said. "So I called [Anthony Thompson] and asked if I could walk-on to the football team. He accepted graciously."
