With Kellen Lewis Gone, Hoosiers on a Roll

Ann Arbour, MI - With Kellen Lewis out of the way, the Hoosiers are winning again, just like they used to.

With Lewis at the helm of the Hoosiers offense, they went 3-9 and got creamed in almost all of their Big-10 games. From the moment he was kicked off the team, Coach Thompson knew the Hoosiers had gotten better. "The losing attitude of the Hoosiers went away the moment they heard that Kellen Lewis was gone," he said after the Michigan game, "Kellen was so depressed about losing, it spread throughout the team. When Ben Chappell took the lead role of the football team, his winning attitude caught one with everyone else, and they started believing this was the year."

Their play has backed up their talk as well. Not only did they start 3-0, the upset Michigan IN THERE STADIUM!!!! Indiana hasn't done that in a very long time. Maybe a thousand years ago they beat the Wolverines in their stadium. But not lately.

Indiana's hopes of an undefeated season look slim, as they face Ohio State next week.

Anthony Thompson: Hello, and welcome to "The Anthony Thompson Radio Show." It's me, Anthony Thompson, head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers. And beside me is John Stark, my assistant. Tonight, I will be taking questions from a few lucky fans. So John, who is our first lucky guest?

John Stark: Our first question today is from steelers1624, asking, “Did you think you'd be undefeated up to this point in the season?”

Thompson: If I had known how well our team would be playing right now, I would have said of course. But I didn’t think my Hoosiers team would do as well as they have so far. I thought 4-8 would be a stretch, and we would definitely have lost to the Michigan Wolverines. So no, I didn’t think we’d be undefeated at this point in the season.

Stark: Our next question is again from steelers1624, asking, and “Do you really think you guys have a chance of beating or even competing with [<st1lace w:st="on"><st1lacename w:st="on">Ohio</st1lacename> <st1lacetype w:st="on">State</st1lacetype></st1lace>]?”

Thompson: That’s a tough question to answer. There are two <st1:state w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Indiana</st1lace></st1:state> teams that I have seen so far this season; I’ve seen a great team that can beat anyone in the country, and I’ve seen a team that can’t do heck on offense or defense. If the first team I mentioned shows up next week against the Buckeyes, we can compete with them, and maybe we can beat them. If not, we’re screwed.

Stark: Steelers1624 posted another question, this time asking, “What in your mind is the key to beating OSU?”

Thompson: That’s an easy question to answer. Our defense is good, but not great. I know we can’t stop their offense. But we can outscore them. If we score 1, maybe 2 touchdowns each quarter, we can outscore them. But if we score 21 or 28 points, we cannot win. They’re just too good offensively.

He asked this time, "Who has been your most valuable player to this point?"

Thompson: Well, first off, all of our players have been valuable to this team. If you take away any of our starters, our team is greatly hurt. Every player is good in different ways, and it's hard to pick the most valuable player on this team. It would have been Bryan Payton, but he's injured and has only appeared in 2 games. It's probably been Ray Fisher. He's not only one of our best athletes, he hustles hard every single play of every single game. He works hard in practices too. When everyone else wants to quit running 50 laps, he says "Let's keep working," and he runs them all, even if everyone else goes home because they are so bored.

Stark: We are only taking 2 more questions, but since they are both from steelers1624, he probably doesn't care too much. He asks, "Do you plan on making any changes to the offensive gameplan or the offensive depth chart any time this season?"

Thompson: So far, I see no need to make any changes on the offensive or defensive side of the football. Some people aren't happy about Ben Chappell's play, but I am extremely satisfied. He might not be putting up the best stats, but his attitude and hustle make the whole team better. He doesn't play to jack up his stats; Ben Chappell plays to win. On the defensive side, every player is doing what he is assigned to do to perfection, so I have no desire to change anything at the moment.

Stark: Our final question asks, "Do you have any predictions on where you guys will be by seasons end?"

Thompson: Honestly, I have little doubt that we can make it to a bowl game. A 6-6 or 7-5 record doesn't seem that out of reach, considering how we have been playing so far. If we keep up our play, we can go to a pretty nice bowl game.

Anthony Thompson Lands First Recruit

Bloomington, IN - All the work Anthony Thompson put into recruiting high school football players finally paid off, as he has landed his first commitment of the year.

J.J. Fine, a 6'0 330 pound guard, is a three star recruit from Stow, Ohio. When he first came out of high school, he was headed to USC as a walk-on. When the Trojan coaching staff discovered he didn't have the grades to compete, they recommended he go to the College of Marin in Kentfield, California. After improving his grades and graduating the Junior College, he expected another call from USC. They never called.

Anthony Thompson was the only coach recruiting him, which made his college decision much easier. "I wasn't sure what college I was going to go to," J.J said last night, "but when Indiana was the only school that called me, it made my choice so much easier. After all, I only had 1 choice."

Asked what his main goal is at IU, J.J. said, "To make USC wish they had called me back."

Indiana Gets Demolished by the Buckeyes

Bloomington, IN - #12 Ohio State came ready to play against the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hoosiers didn't.

"We overestimated them," said Terrelle Pryor, the Buckeye's star quarterback. "We thought they was gonna be a good team. They ain't all they cracked up to be. The little pansies."

The game started out great for Indiana, leaving the first quarter down only a field goal. But from there, things turned from bad to ugly. The Buckeyes scored 14 points in 36 seconds, and all the Hoosiers could do was scrap out a field goal as time expired in the first half. Down 17-3, they thought things couldn't get any worse. How wrong they were.

The Buckeyes played like the best team in the nation. If you think 31 unanswered points in the 2nd half is bad, all Indiana could do was get 1 more touchdown with 2 seconds left in the game to make the final score 48-10 instead of 48-3. "It was disgraceful," said Coach Thompson, "we played like crap all game. Only our running game kept us from losing by 5,000 points. The starters are gonna get it this week. Mark my words."

The Hoosiers hope to turn their luck around when the face Virginia next week.
