Ben Chappell's 6 Picks Cost IU the Game
Bloomington, IN - Indiana could have been made bowl eligible this game. Instead, Ben Chappell threw away the game, and Indiana will have to wait longer to head to a bowl game.
We all know Ben Chappell plays a lot like Brett Favre. A great leader, but a huge risk-taker. But unlike the Packers great, Chappell can't make the big throws. Whenever he throws deep, it's picked off. Whenever he throws a drag or out route, it's picked off. The only throws he can complete are when the receiver is so wide open, you could shut your eyes and throw the ball with your opposite hand, and he'd still catch the ball. He's a great leader and a positive thinker, but he's just not that good. And today, his tendency to throw INTs really hurt the Hoosiers.
He threw 3 in the first 3 drives. Yeah, he was that bad. You might even say he sucked. But after that, he started to get things under control, leading Indiana down the field on a few drives. But at the start of the 2nd half, he fell apart again, throwing 2 quick interceptions. Illinois took advantage, scoring points to stretch out their lead over Indiana. But the Hoosiers came roaring back, tying the game and eventually sending it into overtime.
There, Ben Chappell went back to work, overthrowing Ray Fisher on 4th down to end the game. "I sucked #*%)@& Balls!" he said after the game.
Indiana goes on the road to face #15 Northwestern next week.
