Let me explain to you how Pitt football was left after Walt Harris bolted to Stanford. Pitt had absolutely no talent on the team. They had no offensive line, no defensive line, and barely any play makers.
Enter Dave Wannstedt. Excellent recruiter and stacked our offensive/defensive lines. We have great depth there now. '05, '06, '07 were re-building years. Wannstedt literally had to start from the ground up. In 05 we won 5 games, in 06 we won 6 games. In 07, I thought we would be decent, but we just weren't quite there yet. We only won 5 games, but we beat WVU which made it a tolerable season. Finally with Wannstedt having a full team with his players, we won 9 games and then 10 the year after that with a bowl game win.
The re-building era for Wannstedt is over. He's getting the players he wants each year, and the cover isn't bare like it was when Harris was here. So yes Pitt football 3 years ago would be a 5-7 team. That isn't the case anymore.
