They were out played. Pittsburgh played much faster and out hustled the Wings to the lose pucks, won the pucks on the boards, and generated a lot more offense than the Wings for the majority of the game.
Detroit just couldn't get possession of the puck in the Penguins zone for the first two periods. They are a puck possession team and Pittsburgh played them perfectly by collapsing towards their net and behind their net and not allow the Wings to cycle the puck along the boards and back to the point.
The Wings are not a transition hockey team and time and time again you see guys like Datsyuk, Cleary, or Helm skating into the Penguins zone with the puck 1 vs 4. It really seemed like the Wings were just too slow for the Penguins tonight. On the other hand, the Penguins were able to utilize their speed to get scoring chances and generate some great offensive rushes into the Wings zone. The Wings simply could not control the puck in the Penguins zone, that is all there is to it.
LOL @ Detroit fans booing the Stanley Cup champions. What a bunch of sore losers. Your team wins 5 cups in 12 years and you boo when your team doesn't win.
I actually wanted Detroit to win the cup, too. I have respect for the Wings as a team and an organization, but what a bunch of sore ass fans. I hope they never win a cup again.
