[PC] Star Wars: Old Republic

I always swore I'd never play these games but I might not be able to hold back on this one.

So what's the deal? Will I be required to commit a lot of time to this to make it worthwhile?

I said the same thing.......would never pay for an MMO. This is going to change my mind, as I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I loved the two KOTOR games.

From what I've read, it might tell us where Revan went and what happened to him and the Exile. However, the game is a couple hundred years in the future from KOTOR 2, so don't expect much more than that (although some would argue that is all that is needed.)

You put whatever you want into it really, there's basically always going to be something for you to do.

These games are addicting as hell if you get into it so you'd probably make time if you enjoy it.


You could always download a free version or a trial of an existing MMO just to get an understanding of what the games are like.

Actually, I just found out that Drew Karpyshyn is writing a third novel that will tie into the game called Star Wars The Old Republic: Revan, which is going to explore where he went and what happened to him. So keep an eye out for that.

Also, the book will be well written. Karpyshyn was senior writer for Knights of the Old Republic, wrote the Darth Bane Trilogy (another great trilogy to read) and is lead writer for the Mass Effect series.

Yeah, just for the PC. MMOs have traditionally ignored the console market, although with the success of KOTOR on the Xbox, I am not sure why they didn't try to get this to a console.

No, as killgod said, The Old Republic is it. There is, however, a novel being released by Drew Karpyshyn, who was lead writer for KOTOR, titled Revan, which should tie up most of the loose ends from both games.

what exactly looks decent about the combat? i look at the combat and see lame. 2 enemies just standing still in a cave firing a blast every 5 seconds while he stands there loading up an electric blast. There was no movement, no action...nothing....just 2 enemies vs him and his companion standing there exchanging hits every 5 seconds....lame

the stuff he spoke about in all 3 vids sounded great....but when i watch the gameplay and see the slow battles and herky jerky slow movement while on the speeder and i still see a very unimpressive game

You either like Pen & Paper or you don't. MMO's are typically that plus graphics.

My comment was to be taken in comparison to other MMO's, surely you cannot compare to a real time action video game as it's simply not the same. KOTOR fans (or NVN, IWD, BG, PT, etc) would be aware of this as they too were not real time action games.

Collectors edition may have been leaked...

A rumor has popped up that publisher EA will soon start taking pre-orders for Star Wars: The Old Republic over its Origin download service, as well as details regarding the game's Collector's Edition.

Kotaku says that a few European online retailers have posted info on the the game's Collector's Edition (listed below), but these listings have since been taken down. The price is apparently $175 for the limited edition. A source says that EA will take pre-orders starting on Thursday, July 21, for both the regular and Collector's editions, with an overall cap of 500,000 pre-orders, although only the first 50,000 will be guaranteed (the rest go on a waiting list).

Given the tight timeline listed by the rumor, we should know pretty quickly if it's legit.

Despite these rumblings, the game still does not have an official release date.

@ $149 this is still insane. A ton of people will order this anyway, but why the hell would I pay $149 for a game I haven't even tried a demo of and I'll be paying monthly for? Fuck that.
