Don't like the fourth down call either, but the great blitz call by the Ravens affected it. I'm fine with the no-call on Crabtree - there was contact, but every referee swallows his whistle there.

I agree with your entire post. The playcalling was terrible.

As for the last play. It was a decent play call, but Crabtree simply has to get to the spot. Jimmy Smith was playing the slant and in that situation Crabtree should have faked inside and faded to the endzone to complete the catch. Instead, he didn’t get off the snap clean and allowed himself to get jammed. For the most part in that situation a ref isn’t going to call holding.

Sorry ralaw. I think you are seeing the world through purple-tinted glasses. No WR will ever get to the spot on a fade route when he's being held. The timing is too precise.

I can forsee future Super Bowls (since the majority seem to all come down to this play), to have increased illegal behavior.

I fully expect the team with the ball next year, to put it's biggest target out wide, instruct him to completely just flatten the DB however he wants, then toss him a pass. Dare the ref to throw a flag.

You better believe they were "swallowing the whistle ", this is the SB.....the refs always let the players play. Unless it is an absolute mugging the refs aren't going to call that. Teams and coaches have to make adjustments in their play and playcalling. That was a horrible call in that situation. It was Crabtree's fault that he didn't get to the spot. In that situation you better believe there will be some extracurricular activity. As far as I am concerned and I am extremely bias....the better team won and that play had nothing to do with determining the outcome. With Kaepernick I don't understand why they did not try to use him to run the ball for a touchdown. I thought the play calls on that last drive were terrible.

Pick any one of the three and the ref wouldn't be wrong. The actions not only merited a call by the ref, but the penalty could have fit any three of those that can be committed by a DB.

I don't deny that there wasn't a penalty.....only that I really wouldn't expect the refs to make a call in that situation.

I would, because the defender broke a rule and inhibited a receiver. I don't' care if it was the first play of a preseason game in Canton, OH.

I would have liked something that gave Kap a chance to make different reads instead of focusing on just one guy, but it wouldn't have mattered either way with the blitz coming.

Players and coaches have to take into account that refs try to stay out of making game defining calls. The game was called pretty consistent. This always happens down the stretch of big games. Early in the game there was a missed illegal contact call on Torrey Smith that inhibited him from running under a deep ball. It happens.

People might have missed it. But on the first of the two rollout passes, where SF used the timeout. SF had called a QB designed run. But Hardballs called the timeout. Maybe that's why he didn't call it again. Don't know. Just thought it was an interesting call there.

I thought Crabtree didn't execute correctly and put himself in a tougher position to not be where the play call expected him to be. He essentially just ran straight into Smith and then tried to break outside. Poor execution.

I thought Crab did poorly too. Smith lined up to take away the slant. He needed to get to the other side of the corners hip, if he could have, then I bet the flag would have been there. But he couldn't even do that. He ran right into Jimmy's chest. Not good enough.

And with all that said. It still could been called. But it wasn't.

2 yards into the endzone Jimmy Smith is still holding him by both elbows/triceps. Blatantly a foul, but they again Jimmy Smith has done nothing but suck since being drafted in the 1st round by Baltimore, so it's all he could do against Crabs. Could Crabtree have tried to throw him off for separation? Yeah. But he shouldn't have to risk an offensive PI when he was being held illegally already.

Yeah, I noticed that and I liked that they were going for there, but Kap and the offense have had problems with running the play-clock too low since he took over.

I bet if his jersey wasn't held with 2 hands while taking 5+ steps, while the ball was in the air...he probably makes the catch.
