Tim Tebow’s pastor says God is the reason Broncos are winning

One of Tim Tebow's pastors in Colorado knows why the Denver Broncos are winning games in miraculous fashion every Sunday. It's not because of Marion Barber gaffes or defensive interceptions or even because of the sheer, undeniable greatness that radiates from everything Tebow. No, the team's good fortune is all due to the man upstairs.

TMZ spoke with Pastor Wayne Hanson, who runs Summit Church in the Denver suburb of Castle Rock. He attributes the success of Tebow and the Broncos to God's favor. The website writes:

Hanson tells us, "It's not luck. Luck isn't winning 6 games in a row. It's favor. God's favor."

Pastor Hanson adds, "God has blessed his hard work."

We asked Hanson if Tebow would be winning games if he wasn't such a strong believer -- and the pastor replied, "No, of course not."

It's a statement that some will see as ripe for mockery. At least three times this month I've heard someone say, "If there is a God, I'm not sure He cares who finishes first in the AFC West." But Tebow and Hanson believe their prayers are heard by their Lord. It's why belief in a higher power is called faith. Who is anyone to say otherwise? Do I personally think God made Matt Prater's kick go through the uprights or caused Marion Barber to fall out of bounds instead of staying on the field? Not really. But what I believe, or what you believe, doesn't matter. Tebow believes and that's something to be lauded, not ridiculed.

In a poll accompanying the TMZ post, readers were asked to choose the world's most influential Christian. In early balloting, Pope Benedict XVI narrowly edged Tebow, 55 percent to 45 percent. OK, mock that one all you want. But with a win over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots next week, I'm guessing Tebow wins that poll.

As I've already said, it's because these stupid fucking teams play prevent at the end of the game and I could probably make a prevent defense look bad. Add Tebow's great scrambling ability and it's a recipe for disaster.

Not only did they go to a soft Cover 2 look they executed it terribley. Tillman missed a tackle, Jennings was playing inside leverage for God knows what reason on some plays, etc. For whatever reason the Bears chose to go away from what had worked all game long in crunch time. Matt Bowen was on WSCR the other day talking about it. The Bears all game were pressing WR's and more willing to play Cover 1(which they have been playing a lot of this season) to force Tebow to try and fit throws into tight windows all game...which he can't do...or isn't willing to try doing at this point. In the finals drives the Bears changed literally everything they had done all game long that had worked. OT they went back to it and stopped them forcing a 59 yard FG that they hit.

Actually, I think it was a 51 yarder, but yeah. And there was at least one big completion where I think it was Jennings that fell down, allowing the receiver to make a nice catch on a poorly thrown, albeit full of zip, ball from Tebow.

I've been waiting for this team to lose for several weeks, but it seems every game something happens that just doesn't make any sense....from bad coaching decisons, to bad turnovers, to teams missing their key players to long field goals. However, if the Gold Standard NFL franchise and the Golden Boy goes down to Tebow then something is going on.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised. We will find out just how legit this Denver defense is......if its legit than I expect a really good game, as we all know the Patriots defense can't stop anyone.

The first few games in we were running pretty much exclusively out of a super heavy package with 3 TEs, one of which is an eligible tackle most of the time (Chris Clark). That's still the package we run most of the read-option hand-offs out of now.

I think Denver is at their best (and when he's been the most hot) when you have Tebow empty backfield with 4 or 5 wideouts because Denver has had the slot guys running digs and outs to pull men out of the box while the guys on the outside would run seams or posts to take the safeties deep.

Usually if Tebow can't find a guy breaking loose in the secondary (he will run around behind the line of scrimmage endlessly it seems) there is a running lane open somewhere because at this point everyone's assignments have gone to shit.

We've started to use those sets a little more the past two weeks and I believe it can work. We scored a ton of points against the Vikings and for all that people are making about the poor start for Tebow, he also saw his young, raw wideouts drop 6 passes in the game. He threw a great deep ball to Demaryius Thomas that would have gone for 6 in the third quarter, but when the ball reached him Demaryius did his best "Hot Hands" (Little Giants) impression and looked totally lost trying to bring it in.

I know people are talking a lot about the Bears going into the prevent, but they weren't in it in OT and Tebow completed all his passes in that frame too and moved Denver right into FG range on his first drive of the quarter. Also, the Jets tried to do the exact opposite thing against us by sending guys from the edges to get to Tebow and we all saw what happened in that game.

Finally, he gets better at the end of the games. Physically better, mentally better and fundamentally better. If you're looking for someone to explain that I don't know what to tell you.

That's because people don't understand what a prevent defense is.

The Bears were not playing a prevent. The Bears safties were playing a deep cover 2.

That's essentially what the Bears prevent defense is. It's a Cover 2 shell with the DB's taking outside leverage(unless you're Tim Jennings) and the safeties starting 20 yards deep and dropping to almost 30 at the snap. The Bears have never had a true "prevent" look..all they do is run Cover 2 shell with deeper drops and no press on the outside.

I don't really give Denver a chance this week, but regardless, it'll be interesting to see what people say when the magic finally does end (it is gonna end.... right? :shifty: )
