The General Wrestling Thread

I'm with Larry, it's like I said on the podcast, I think it really happened and since they ended up working it out pretty quickly they decided to weave it into the storyline.

If it were 100% work they would have filmed the argument.
 
Given the realize guerrilla nature of the video it strikes me as a shoot that turned into a work when they realized they could play it into storyline.
 
You all have ruined wrestling for me. You all exposed me to things better than WWE and now everywhere I turn I can't help but be disgusted by WWE fans. This facebook group I'm on is actually talking up how RVD is a great signing for WWE and he should be pushed high up the card.

The WWE isn't so bad...

They have enough quality stuff on a week-to-week basis...there is just 9 hours of television every week (throw in an extra 3, once a month for the PPV) and the good stuff is mixed in and you gotta find it or wait for it, etc. There is a ton of shit interwoven in those 9 hours, too, which makes the WWE look worse than it often is.

I'm able to watch everything the WWE has to offer that is quality every week and it is in, more-often-than-not, less time than it takes to watch a full RAW...sometimes a little more...but its quite easy to watch the best of the WWE in any given week...and if you do, you'll probably think better of the product.
 
If you put yourself in a position to allow the WWE to let you down, it will.

Take it for what it is and enjoy it when they do something good or something is clicking. Just remember that what they do isn't meant for you.

I don't hate the WWE. I love watching NXT and am really happy with a good chunk of their roster. However, I hate their fans. Well maybe just the fans in this facebook group. Every day there are multiple posts about how Kofi Kingston deserves a WHC run and things like that. It's a DC area Wrestling Fans group so I'll let you guess why they love Kofi so much.

For real though, I personally grew up watching (and ENJOYING) some of the WORST of what American pro wrestling had to offer.

Nowadays, we as a wrestling fandom can't just flip to "the other show" like we used to (considering TNA's on Thursdays and any other promotion is either on at 2-in-the-morning or only available live/on DVD).

Luckily, there's alternatives (like the older bouts of yesteryear) provided from overseas that are only a click away.

He's never going to TNA, that's a gigantic step backwards. If I were him, I wouldn't even consider WWE until I was older and starting to hurt. At that point i'd try one good run, and bounce as soon as I fell into the Superstars/B-show trap. Because like TNA, making strictly a WWE downside is a step down. WWE only benefits him if he's a top guy or reasonably pushed. He's in a better spot than the Justin Gabriel's, and it's not even close.

Thanks for the info. I've always wondered why more guys don't see this as a viable career path. Obviously it's a big risk and you need to have that bug that says you should break out of what's comfortable and try something new. I'm sure there also intricacies with a Japanese promotion that many American's can't or want to grasp outside of a couple tours. But it seems like a great lifestyle in front of fans who love the product

It's also about how guys were brought up when they get into wrestling. Vast majority of American workers grew up with WWE so it's going to take something out of the blue for someone to want to aspire for a career working out of the country.

Thats the exact approach I take. It's like watching B-action movies like Shoot Em Up or Resident Evil. Just come to be entertained, nothing more.
 
Watching WWE Main Event, It sounded like they announced Antonio Cesaro from Louisiana, Switzerland instead of Lucerne. It sounded close enough, i got a chuckle out of it.
 
DirecTV picked up MavTV, so i'm watching Championship Wrestling from Hollywood for the first time.

They are doing a great job pushing a house show, tons of promos, crawlers, etc. Problem is, the show takes place on MAY 5.

OK, these tapes are several months old. WWE signee Shaun Ricker was on the show, and his manager was....Percy Pringle. So that was weird.

Here is Ricker. He kinda looks like Mike Bennett:

He's on The Rock's reality show on TNT, too.

Anyway, the show doesn't have great production values. It's not in HD. The talent is what I would call mid level indie. Everybody is at minimum passable in the ring, but there are some PWG guys (Willie Mack, Scorpio Sky) and mid level names (Ricker, So Cal Crazy) in the mix, too. Some of the guys have horrendous indie-riffic gimmicks (a caveman named "Manimal", for instance). Overall it's watchable and I will keep up with it so I can keep tabs on some of these west coast guys I normally wouldn't ever get to see.

If you have DirecTV, it's channel 219. They just picked it up. MavTV.
