The latest from Meltzer on Davey & Eddie

Davey Richards was in Preston, England, on 10/31 as part of several weeks overseas and doing seminars in the country on a tour that ended on 11/1. After his match, he thanked the U.K. fans for their support. He said that whenever he's felt like quitting pro wrestling, he comes to the U.K. and rediscovers his passion for wrestling. He said that the U.K. fans had saved his life. He then said there has been a lot of speculation about where he and Eddie (never saying Edwards) will be going next and which promotion. He said that for legal reasons, he can't talk about it, but if this is his last tour of the U.K., he said he had gone out on a high note. He said that wherever he and Eddie would wind up, there would be fireworks. He never said WWE, but clearly implied it. Right now everything involving Richards & Edwards (currently in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH's GHC singles tournament as the ROH rep) is secretive but what I do know is HHH's original decision was to turn both down, right to the point of saying on the subject that we don't hire guys like Davey Richards (both too big a name and they want unknowns that they can say they started and the size issue as well), who he knew. But there were people in the company who stood up to him on that one and told him he was wrong. I don't know exactly how this is going to work, but based on what Richards said and other things I've heard, they may get a foot in the door and being a tag team saved both of them because HHH is looking for tag teams. Both men's ROH contracts have expired although they may either be working on a short-term extension, or with no contract. I'm actually pretty sure it's the latter. They didn't sign new deals because they were hopeful of being picked up out of the last WWE training camp, where Edwards was apparently the standout in camp. This will all play out in some form rather quickly.

Welp, this answers the burning question of whether WWE would sign a 36-year old AJ Styles:

As for Styles, I'm not certain of anything new regarding his contract, but one would think he's signed a new deal because giving him this storyline and paying him while he's only working outside the promotion for a few months (the idea is for him not to return to TV so fast which is the difference between this angle and the Punk angle, that and Styles is working for other groups) makes no sense if he's not under contract after December. There was a WWE offer made to him, but it was one that he couldn't have possibly taken, given it was about one-fifth what he's currently making. Sure, in WWE, there's the opportunity to make tons more than your downside, and he would if he was on the main roster and working regularly and getting a mid-level push (although a mid-level guy in WWE would be making slightly more money than Styles currently earns for tons more dates). The issue is in WWE, it's not impossible, but very difficult, especially if you're not awesome on the mic, to get past the level they see you at, and given the offer they made to him, that's not exactly a promising sign as to what that level they saw him at.

I wouldn't have signed that shit either. TNA is a country club compared to the WWE schedule, and he has to be honest with himself on his chances of being more than Justin Gabriel 2.0 or Kofi Kingston at best.

The first house show in a few weeks was the sold show on 11/2 in Mt. Pleasant, MI, at the casino where Bellator regularly runs. They drew 1,000 fans. It opened with Magnus beating Dewey Barnes with the Texas cloverleaf. Barnes is the guy who runs the concession stand and did a TV job recently for Ethan Carter III. It's one thing to use the concession stand guy in a prelim match since he is a longtime indie worker, but it's another when he was working on the concession stand in front of the fans that night. Abyss pinned Kazarian with the black hole slam. Gail Kim pinned ODB to retain the Knockouts title with a roll-up holding the ropes in a good match. Chris Sabin beat Manik to keep the X title holding onto the ropes. Yes, two matches in a row, both with Earl Hebner, doing the same finish. Sabin insulted the crowd and tried to play heel, since he's from Detroit, it didn't really work. Robbie E & Jessie Godderz kept the tag titles over James Storm & Gunner when Kazarian interfered and attacked Storm and E pinned him. Main event saw Austin Aries pin Bobby Roode in a great match. Kazarian interfered, but then Storm & Gunner attacked Kazarian as retribution for him costing them their match. Aries won with the brainbuster.

Sold show or not, 1,000 people watching TNA is a good thing.

Fucking christ at the bold. So bush league. Give him the friggin night off from slinging t-shirts if he's working the show. Jesus.

– Highly developed written and verbal communications skills. Ability to communicate story lines, including vision and strategy, effectively with senior management, writing and production teams, and external parties.

WWE has also opened up talks again with Fergal "Prince" Devitt. In the past, Devitt has talked about being happy with New Japan given the style and the fact he's got a guaranteed good spot in a place he's established his name, plus it's a lot better schedule to work. At the same time, there is far more potential money in WWE, and the New Japan style is far tougher physically. At 32, with injuries starting to crop up, you start thinking about your financial future and decisions you may have made a few years ago are looked at differently. The thing with Devitt is, he's not just got the in-ring work but has a heel attitude and personality completely unlike anyone in the company right now. But as the leader of The Bullet Club, he's really in the best position of his career in New Japan as far as a guy who will get major singles matches and probably a PPV main event and one or two semis a year, and is part of a growing company. I know people who have done both New Japan and WWE and they are much happier in New Japan, but money is an issue and it also depends on what kind of commitment WWE makes financially. WWE offered Tensai a huge downside because they expected him to be a main event heel, even if he didn't make it, but he's making far more than he'd have made in Japan. What WWE offered A.J. Styles, who has a bigger U.S. name than Devitt, as far as a guarantee goes, may be the same or less than Devitt is already guaranteed in Japan.

He is a big fish in a small pond. In TNA, he's treated like royalty. Few shows, nice paycheck, work is driving distance. The WWE offers more on the upside, but way too much work in comparison for AJ.

Thoughts on Konnan's thoughts about Axel and the WWE recently...

Konnan continues to criticize WWE Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel after stating last week on Twitter that the third generation wrestler lacks charisma and should be removed from television (along with Aksana, Brad Maddox, Drew McIntyre, Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal, JoJo and Rosa Mendes).

"There is a reason they dont give Mark Axel mike time..#NotAGoodPromo," Konnan said over the weekend in response to a fan wondering why Axel doesn't speak more on television.

Konnan added during Monday's episode of Raw, "He is just a guy with a scowl and trunks..#WonderBRead."

In response to a fan tweet to WWE's official Twitter account asking that the sports-entertainment organization "future endeavor" Axel, Konnan wrote, "wouldnt be surprised.."

Made aware of Konnan's previous critical remarks, Axel responded last week, "Well what do ya know! Looks like @Konnan5150 is trying to gain social media popularity by talking about a REAL Superstar!"

Meanwhile, Konnan weighed in on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon's on-screen exploits. Unlike Axel, he feels the power couple is "good for business."

"On some occasions...they are good for business, as long as they don't get carried away burying all the talent..which they have done," wrote Konnan.

One of those individuals is Daniel Bryan, who Konnan feels hasn't been portrayed in a good manner: "Def not shining Danielson like they should."
