i raised the race issue becasue it is there to be raised. a white ownership weilds power over a black constiuency. how is race not an issue in this? have you not read american history.

Its irresponsible to raise the race issue simply because Goodell is white and most NFL players are black. Unless you have some real instances and facts about his handling of players' there is absolutely no connection between the NFL situation and what is or could be a race issue. Goodell disciplines NFL players who get caught up in activities that interfere with the image the NFL is trying to project. That is it. and thus far he has been an equal opportune disciplinarian. Up to this point Goodell's handling of players has been legit and fair, so I don't understand the point in bringing up race as an issue. Whether it be factual or based on assumption it simply isn't fair and is irresponsible to bring up the issue of race is this story.

Now, I agree with you that maybe Goodell should look into getting an independent arbitrator to look into these off the field issues, and maybe that will eventually happen. However, Goodell seems like the the type of guy who wants to deal first hand with his players and maybe in his attempt to clean up the league he felt this was the best way to handle it.

I'm not saying "I know you are but what am I", I'm asking you what you are basing your opinions on. I know that its probably too much to ask for. Basically what you are saying is that since Roger Goodell didn't immediately reinstate Mike Vick, the NFL will cease to exist because of the ensuing labor/race strife.

Wether or not the discipline has been metted out equally, the preception of an unfair situtaion based on race can come into play no matter how the actions are actually carried out. Is there a racist overtone to Goodell being the czar of the NFL? That depends on who you ask. I personally don't think there is, but I am not nieve enough to think that it couldn't exist. The real irony is if if was a black man that was doing what Goodell is he would be called a race trader or uncle tom by some. The point of me bringing it up was to imply that when the CBA talks start anything can get in the way.

A lot of these knuckle heads think since they have skated their whole life they can just whatever they want, and this personal conduct thing is perfect for that. I don't understand how you are getting this race angle. You're entire stance is based on the fact that Goodell is white and the majority of the league is black. You are simply reaching, because you have no evidence to back this stance. Are we to assume anytime a white man is over a collection of blacks racism should come into play? There simply is no race angle.
