I think the fact that he was hanging out with these three bums with no future ahead of them says a lot. All the baggies and paraphernalia belonged to Derrick Bryant, so I guess it's possible he wasn't even smoking, but to even be around these guys shows terrible lack of judgment on his part.

Sad story, he's actually a pretty good kid who has overcome a ton of odds. After all he's survived he ends up getting done in by his own stupidity.

If Mathieu has Jordan Jefferson, Derrick Bryant and Karnell Hatcher over to his apartment on a Thursday afternoon, nobody cares. Only when the police are called for a completely unrelated reason does this become an issue. You could say the only way he acted stupidly in this (beyond even having those guys at his place to begin with, obviously) is by consenting to let them search without PC or a warrant. But the police were not there on account of his own stupidity, at least not directly, they were there on account of a maintenance worker calling the police on Jordan Jefferson as he entered the complex.

Pretty silly that people are up in arms about this, tbh. There are college football players doing dumb shit RIGHT NOW. There are some smoking weed RIGHT NOW ... 99% of the time, no cops will be notified, and the world will keep turning. Rather than join in on the chorus of moral orels, I'm just gonna say "smh" and move on. Sad situation for him, and the other three, but I don't think it will ruin his life. He's been through much worse.

Yes they were. Mathieu even having those guys over to begin with was stupid. Mathieu allowing those guys to bring that stuff around him was stupid. The fact that there was anything to find is partly on Mathieu for allowing himself to be around it.

Agreed, however the other players doing this for the most part haven't failed multiple tests and got kicked out of school for it. FWIW, Rees arrest was a much more serious issue and much dumber IMO than what Mathieu did yesterday. Excusing Mathieu's bad choices with the stupidity(Jefferson) and "narc'ing"(worker) of others isn't right. I'm not saying Mathieu holds 100% responsibility for the weed being there to be found or for the actions of Jefferson or others there..but Mathieu is responsible for his actions, or lack thereof..and his (continued) bad choices.

If the officers had to ask...likely it isn't. But even if it's not they could detain the guys in the house, call in and get a warrant then search it.

The "everyone" is doing it argument is moot. Someone in Mathieu's position (ie. play for LSU again,, repair his image, get drafted, etc) should be using better judgement. However, considering the position that he put himself in I'm not sure it is reasonable to put those sort of expectations on him.

Pointing fingers at others for his problems is probably what has happened Mathieu's whole life which has enabled him to the point where he continually makes poor decisions that are ruining his life. It's not helping anyone to continue to coddle this guy.

Jefferson was convicted of a misdemeanor stemming from that bar fight last year which would have put him on summary probation for five years here in CA at least. In that case the odor of marijuana would have been PC for any kind of search and seizure the police wanted to perform of his property I believe.

It's material because he has to have awareness of the spotlight surrounding him. You keep trying to blame this all on a buzzer and a bunch of guys that the general public doesn't really care about when the only reason it's a story is Mathieu's presence. He continually makes bad decisions that lampoon his draft stock.

As far as him being enrolled at LSU, apparently that wasn't the best situation for him to be in because he can't seem to avoid negative headlines. He should have probably humbled himself and gone the JUCO route for a year so he could stay on the field and then find a program far away from the cast of characters that keep taking him down this path.

- was dismissed from the team 4 months later, for repeated drug use
- voluntarily undergoes drug rehabilitation
- is currently paying his own way to attend a university

How is me saying "hey guys, this was really stupid, but let's get off the high horse" somehow a continuation of special treatment which you perceive he has received up to this point? He should have been kicked out of the university when he continued to exhibit the behavior that got him suspended last year but as you already pointed out was still allowed to attend LSU and was planning on re-joining the team next season.

And congratulations to him for paying his way through college. Funny you failed to mention the only reason for that was because HIS ACTIONS got his scholarship revoked. He'll get no tears from me for that because if I were convicted of a drug offense I would have to pay my way for school as well and would likely be kicked out of my current university and have to finish my education at the University of Phoenix.
