- father doing life in prison for murdering mother's boyfriend
- mother on drugs his entire childhood
- was suspended for a game last season for drug use
- was dismissed from the team 4 months later, for repeated drug use
- voluntarily undergoes drug rehabilitation
- is currently paying his own way to attend a university

How is me saying "hey guys, this was really stupid, but let's get off the high horse" somehow a continuation of special treatment which you perceive he has received up to this point? I don't see how he's been coddled at all, quite the opposite in fact. He's made mistakes and been held accountable for them.

I pointed out how it was coddling in my post. He's being treated differently because he's a football player of high regard. You want to quote half sentences and generalize the points I make because you can't argue them.

But how is he being treated differently? You are suggesting he should have been expelled this August for his behavior, but the school's student code of conduct said otherwise. If his transgression warranted expulsion, he would have been expelled. He will certainly be expelled now, barring the charges being dropped.

Again, we have countless examples of him making mistakes and then being punished for those mistakes. That's kind of the opposite of what the definition of coddling is. Admittedly, my post was a bit more favorable of him than is maybe warranted, but even if what I said could be construed as coddling, your implication was that it was merely a CONTINUATION (since, you know, you used that word) of him receiving favorable treatment, which is not true. He's faced fair and stern punishment for his violations over the last 12 months, which are in accordance with the school's disciplinary guidelines, and now he faces jail time. Where is the favorable treatment here? He fucks up, he gets punished for it. Seems pretty normal to me.

The Code of Conduct is vague about what the grounds for expulsion are at best. Miles said he was dismissed for a violation of team rules, making no mention of the school's Code of Conduct at all..

What I'm saying is that any other regular student at a state university is gone the second they violate their school's policy during a disciplinary probation period (especially if it's a repeat of the same offense they were placed on probation for in the first place) and that Mathieu's standing as a football player has gone a long way to keeping him enrolled at LSU. The fact that he was never even suspended from the university is proof enough for me that there was something working in Mathieu's favor in terms of how his discipline was doled out and since I'm pretty sure he's up for the Rhodes Scholarship it was because he was a key part of the football team.

For someone who loves to call out all the transgressions of the Urban Meyer era in terms of giving players a ton of chances before finally booting them you're sure willing to look the other way when it comes to the way Mathieu has been "disciplined" during his tenure at LSU.

Code of Conduct pretty explicitly lays out the policy. 3rd failure of a drug test = 1 year suspension from athletics. 4th failure = Expulsion. Think we can guess which test Tyrann was on.

Regular students don't submit themselves to piss tests either.

LOL, stop. Scare quotes, really? Now you are implying he wasn't disciplined? He was suspended for a game on his 2nd violation of team rules, then dismissed from the team completely after his 3rd.
