If Lebron brings in even half the championships Kobe has, he'll go down as the greatest player of all-time. And after the first ring, no one will care about ''the decision.'' I'm all for Lebron haters hating, because I'm a hater, too - but to think Lebron's legacy is tarnished by his decision to play with Miami, is laughable. I dread Lebron's first championship, because after he gets it, even I won't be able to talk shit anymore - and half the fun about this whole ''Big 3'' is rooting for them to fail.

There is line between Jordan and everyone else...then there is also a line between guys like Kobe and guys like LeBron and that line was only created a few years ago when Kobe finally won without Shaq.

At the end of the day, it'll be a situation like comparing Jordan to Magic Johnson.

Two all-time greats. Starters at their individual positions on the All-Decade team. But there is a clear difference between the two.

However, Bron Bron has time. He is only 25 and he'll win a few rings with the Heat over the next five years. However, that doesnt get him close to Mamba. Being a gun for hire doesn't get you to that level. No, Mamba or Airness didnt win them "alone" but teams were built around them and there is a difference in the situations.

He'll be an All-Timer, but not a Jordan All-Timer. I think he has come to terms with that and that there is nothing wrong with being Magic.

I think there is something that will always be missing from LeBron's resume keeping him from that level when its all said and done, and its not bringing Cleveland a championship. He didn't make good on that "promise" and it hinders his resume a bit, IMO.

Good post. I think this last part is the biggest problem I have with the whole thing. It was too good of a script not to have a happy ending.

I completely disagree. I watched the NBA ''back then.'' I loved the NBA at that time. I would lick Larry Birds shoes, and like it, but even he didn't win a championship on his own. He simply wasn't great enough. The only thing Lebron did wrong, is admit that he needed help, the way the greats needed help back in the day. Lebron James didn't demand a trade, he didn't cry about Cleveland not doing their best to win championships - he waited it out, played his best, and moved on.

Nothing Lebron does, other than retire without a ring, will keep him out of the discussion for greatest of all-time. You honestly think anyone will give a shit years from now, IF he's inducted into the hall of fame with, say, 3 titles? I actually love LeBron. Been on the King's bandwagon since Day 1. However, we are talking about the greats, and when discussing the great's, you need to slice the pie to sometimes the smallest pieces. If LeBron brought the city of Cleveland championships, I feel as though yes, he would have been talked about on a Jordanian level. He would have been thought of as highly of as Jordan regardless of the person he is (Jordan is loved by everyone, but the man is flawed to no end and no one cares). However, he didn't and ended his career there and quite a few seasons, poorly (gameplay standpoint). Left the team high and dry and went to form a super team to get himself a few rings. That is fine, but it pretty much concedes that he'll never be on top of the pedestal. Unfair? Maybe. But you need to be mythical to be on Jordan's level.

So, compare him to his peers...Kobe was a figure that was always discussed as a player that was Jordan-lite, but he didn't have the hardware to back it up. Most of Kobe's titles are considered Shaq's (as is D-Wade's)...but once Kobe got some "on his own"...different ball game. Kobe is now considered an elite all-time shooting guards...maybe only behind Jordan...he is certainly well on his way at this point.

Is LeBron on Kobe's level right now? IMO, no. LeBron is more talented, but he doesn't have the stuff that matters...championships. He needs to get those "on his own" for him, individually, to be great and on the level people believe(d) him to be.

Its probably not fair, but it is, what it is.

If Lebron James pulls in half of what Jordan and Kobe have, he might not be the clear cut greatest of all-time, but there will be plenty of people/experts making a strong case for the guy - and for good reason. Lebron James won't need 6 rings, to be in the same category as those guys you listed - now that's the definition of ''great.''

Unless you agree with, Larry, that is - that the whole Miami thing will hold him back, which will never happen. He's one ring from erasing all of that, at least to those who matter. Haters will always be hating.
