Pretty sure everyone already overreacted when they anointed them the greatest team ever.

Who ever thought they would still need PG, C or a bench? They are gonna get worked on the pick and roll all year.

They will still be a very good team, sure, but they aren't winning 72 games this year (looking at you, Hass) ...

When did I ever say the Heat would win 72 games?

I said if they get any help from their bench they're going to be scary good. I don't know how that is debatable?

The Heat are vulnerable right now as they continue to gel and figure out how to handle two superstars + a solid power forward.. but I agree with Simmons column a week or two ago when he said that the Heat won't fully blossom until Wade realizes the team needs to go through Lebron.

As an aside, in the end it doesn't matter how the Heat play in November.. it matters how they play in April. I'm still not sure they could beat the Lakers (a matchup nightmare given how weak the Heat are down low and that Kobe/Artest can defend Wade and Lebron) .. but who knows? If Wade and LeBron get hot at the same time.. they'll be very difficult to beat no matter how crappy their supporting cast outside of Bosh and Mike Miller are.

Way too early to judge the Heat.
I don't think we'll see the real Miami team until about game 50 or so.
And, even then, it won't matter ... they'll have 30 to 35 wins.

This nonsense about judging them a 72-win team this year is stupid. They need time to develop as a team.

By game 50, we'll have a better idea where they stand ... and, of course, the playoffs are all that really matter.

If Miami wins 48 games in the regular season and win an NBA title, no one will care about the regular season.

My guess is Miami wins 58-62 games. I have no clue how they'll fare in the playoffs.

Seriously getting excited about the Heat losing a game in November is like me getting excited about Duke losing a conference road game in January. Or the Yankees being swept by the Royals in June. It's fun for fans who hate a team to root against them, but in the grand scheme of things it means jack shit.

Then again, most Chicago sports teams are the most overrated team in their respected sport.

I think it's obviously too early to judge the heat as a team, but Bosh has been a bitch his entire career. I think we can all laugh at how in every loss for far Miami has gotten gouged down low and Bosh is nowhere to be found.

They're still going deep this season. Only Boston and maybe Orlando (if they get hot from the outside and Howard can dominate on O/stay out of foul trouble) should get in their way in the east, and they'll only have to play one west squad at most.

IMO the only team in the east that can stop the Heat is Boston and that's assuming they're old guys are still healthy come playoff time. Orlando doesn't have the heart to beat them and I'm not sure Chicago can match up on the perimeter. Rose is good, but he won't beat the Heat by himself. Obviously Boozer would provide something on the inside, but I've never seen a 20/10 guy's stats seem so meaningless to a team. For Chicago to beat Miami they'd need Deng to really step it up offensively and defensivly, which I don't think he could do.

I have no faith in Orlando, because the'yre offensive scheme is so easy to beat....single cover Howard, stay on the shooters and that's about it. They don't have a guy who can break down a defender and get to the hoop to create. Carter coud do it and does it occasionaly, but he'd rather shoot jumpers. I don't see them being able to beat Boston or Miami 4 times in 7 games.

Atlanta is good, but you summed it up in another thread. They're good, but not an elite team that could challenge the east's elite teams. They're probably the best of the second tier teams. However, they do have the horses to compete on any night, but I don't think they're consistent enough to be considered elite.

Since I said that, I realized how much I was underestimating the impact of an actual offensive system, and I underestimated the leap that Al Horford was going to make. He's averaging 17 and 9.5 right now. The Larry Drew era Hawks are better than the Woodson era Hawks, and I firmly believe they're among the elite in the East, provided the match-up. The Heat and Hawks will probably split the four regular season games.
